Cryptic Movie (2009)
I admit, my daughter made me watch it because she's a huge Johnny Pacar fan, but I have to say: I loved it as well. In an age where CGI is what makes a film, this movie was surprisingly good without it. The acting was nicely done and the concept behind the film was excellent.I have to agree with others that said the science fiction aspect reminds them of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. Anyone into murders, mystery, and thrillers will get a kick out of it. Kudos to all who took part in its making. I see why it was a huge hit in the film festivals.

nothing cryptic about agood movie
You can always tell a solidly made movie by the use of music. If the screenplay or performances don't cut it lots of eerie music is thrown in to tell you how to feel. Fortunately there was no need for that kind of manipulation in Cryptic. Instead I found myself easily suspending real world belief to enjoy a surprising and highly crafted story. All that, a well placed godzilla reference and a little Einstein and I was in movie heaven!

Great premise, generally good execution
On her birthday, Jessie (played well by both Jadin Gould and Julie Carson as the younger and older Jessies, respectively) is given a cell phone by her mother. Unfortunately, she is never able to use the phone because her mother dies that day while taking a swim in the family pool. Nine years later, Jessie finds her phone and realizes that she's never used it. On a lark, she calls her old number, and a young girl answers. As it turns out, the young girl is Jessie herself. (It actually takes Jessie a while to figure this point out, but I don't consider the revelation here a spoiler since the front of the DVD box gives that point away.)The film is obviously a low-budget affair, but I think that the filmmakers did very well within the limits of their budget. The cast is skilled and does well in an understated way. The script is generally intelligent and well thought-out. And the potential morass of time travel (well, at least voices traveling through time) does not trip up the film except for an attempted explanation that distinguishes between energy and matter, thus explaining why this time travel is possible.Overall, I enjoyed the film, liked where the filmmakers took things and the route they took, and would recommend this film as a little gem worth finding. It's not perfect, but it's solid.

Intelligent time travel thriller
I love this movie. I saw it at a film festival and the audience went nuts for it. It went on to win a bunch of best film and best acting awards as it played the festival circuit and now it's finally on DVD which is great because it's one of those films you need and want to see more than once. It's really well made and it actually knows how to tell a story while taking some really weird turns I didn't expect. Also, the girl playing the lead is great.

Changimg The Past/Future By Cellphone
Plot. On her birthday Jessie gets her first cellphone. The same day her mother is in the pool when some live electrical cables fall in and she is electrocuted but not killed. She goes into a coma and on life support. Film then moves 8 years later and we see Julie who has the usual teenage problems and hates her dad. She finds the old cell and on a whim dials her old home number. Someone answers. We see her make several calls until she realises she's talking to her younger self. She then thinks that maybe they can save mother from the tragedy and quickly because in the present the father is planning to pull the plug.I thought this was a fabulous little low budget drama, with obviously the sci-fi overtones. It's not exactly a time travel flick but changing the past to affect the present is done very well with some good twists along the way.Extras nil just trailers. USA Release but plays Region zero.
