Well okay...
But putting Marvel characters into a "film noir" universe is pretty dicey. This book doesn't quite work.Over the years, Marvel has begun to ignore the psychological horrors of being a hero. I say they need to re-examine the characterizations of their heroes of the Sixties, and delve into the psychiatric issues those heroes would have faced. The Marvel universe is filled with people who are in desperate need of psychiatric treatment, and THEREIN lies the adventure--the inner battle of empathy versus the thirst for revenge. It's time.

wicked!
fantastic! i've been a fan of x-men since i was a kid and it's always interesting to see my favorite characters in alternate storylines/universes. it's funny that i found this because i just recently made a short film in the film noir style with high contrast and heavy shadows. visually, this is a cool mini-series and the story is not bad either. i bought this after getting x-men noir and i'm anxiously awaiting the next series of x-men noir. moore and smith are a nice duo for this gritty story.

Disappointed 80's baby, 90's kid.
The art was lack luster, the story was mediocre and Wolverine's character was a complete let down. Didn't feel like Logan at all.

I am not an animal!
I love the X-men and the Noir genre, when the two of them come together in one fine quick comic read, I reach an extasis state of mind.I particularly liked how they incorporated elements of Origin and Claremont/Miller's Wolverine.

Noir with Claws
If Wolverine were a 1930's man, this is the world he would inhabit. Marvel's 'NOIR' books take familiar heroes and villains & reimagines them in tough 'film-noir' settings. Logan slashes his way thru a crime mystery worthy of Philip Marlowe. Don't pass this one by...

I guess i'm not a fan of Marvel Noir
It's not that this book was bad but i guess i'm more of a fantasy guy than a reality based superhero world type. I know that's a great part of what Noir stands for and that it has it's share of fans but i guess this brand it's not for me (also the fact that i was expecting a bigger book).

Uch. Look don't be disappointed. This is not wolverine. This is man. Manverine. He's human but they use emotions or concepts to drive the character. No super powers just well trained. No rage mode just a short temper. He hangs in the balance between man and beast which is the reason for his name. Basically a retro edit of the story was made to fit with real life themes in a detective noir setting. As typical with Noir its dark and depressing. This is not wolverine but its an interesting read. The glossy pages look lovely and this is a well made print. Great artwork with detailed settings and facial expressions. A couple of double pages could be incredible posters. A particular favourite a wolverine in suit standing behind a planter of roses. Claws between knuckles. Great concept.Still its not perfect and this is not Wolverine of the Xmen I feel like brand recognition gets in the way sometimes and instead of an interesting film noir comic about a trouble character we have a normal man who is wolverine in name only. It's hardly right in my opinion. Instead we just rehash everything. It's a shame.

On the short side, and the story is a bit lacking
The artwork for this story was awesome; gruesome, very noir-y and dark, lots of nice period details; which earned it two stars. And it's not like there's no story, there is a story with a lot of potential. However, there is a major flaw with this book: stemming from the four chapter limit. The whole thing seems exceptionally compressed. This is not helped by the fact that half the book is occupied with contextualising flashbacks. Ultimately, there's not much of a 'detective' element to the book, all the answers he's searching for just seem to be given to him, the same goes for the relationships; she's a woman? He loves her. Who needs to get to know anybody?I liked the re-imagining of the character without powers and I feel it worked well with the period, and really tapped into that primal rage-driven Wolverine. All in all, the writers did great with what they had, but I really feel the four chapter limit on all of Marvel's Noir books is to their detriment. Personally, I feel it actually works against the genre they're slotting their characters into. Every Noir film I've seen lasts forever, but you get sucked in because of the grit and mystery of the world presented to you. Wolverine Noir is kinda the opposite, and left me wanting more mystery, more grit, or at the very least, one more panel showing him getting that katana...

Wolverine anno 1937

Very disappointing . Starts off well but ends abruptly. The book is extremely short and it DOES NOT justify the price tag. The book costs at least 9 times more than it should have.
