Pact I: The Taste of Fear Hardcover

Gripping fiction, very well written. The writer jumps right into the story in the first couple of pages, making it impossible to put the book down.

Duncan Shelley is definitely the one of the best Hungarian authors at present. I've read the Pact I-II and others of his books in Hungarian. He always puts emphasis on his characters to be very professional at their fields, but they are not life-like and not very lovable. You can tell that something... how to say... no offence, but something human is missing from Mr. Shelley. You can just not get rid of the feeling that he was seroiusly abused when he was a child and he is just trying to escape from that by writing - but he wouldn't admit that. His characters mostly behave like people who were sexually hurt when they were children: they have wird sexual intentions and instincts, they say no to "normal" lifestyle and they are psychopaths in the meaning that it is absolutely ok for them to sacrifice 1000's of human lives for "higher" purposes. To me, this is sick. But I understand that there are people who can identify themselves with such "heroes". I am not one of them. He also always tries to teach in his stories, which has its bright and dark side as well. If you are patient enough, and clever enough to read him with appropriate criticism (a lot of criticism, in fact), he is enjoyable.Duncan Shelley semms to be a grabber, though, when it is about money. He sells his books quite expensively in his country, in the UK, and here, as well. It is, of course, his product, he sells it for whatever price he wants, but it is interesting that his books are more expensive on the average than Dan Brown's, Stephen King's, or many other, big player's books. So, on a price/value ratio you can choose better books than these are. But his books are good enough, too.

I was waiting so long to finally have his books on my kindle reader. I can't believe it's in the kindle store. It has began.You won't be disappointed, the story will make you think about the world and you will have a taste of fear for sure. But can you get enough? It's a trilogy so you will have two more Pacts to come to a conclusion. My personal favorite character is Dave. To be honest I am not into science fiction, but this book is just so great that I couldn't put it down. I read it during my vacation in Croatia and it was the perfect company on the beach. What I like the most is that this story could be easily reality. So be prepared for it!More books to come from this writer, next thing you know, he will be on the top of the best seller list. Agatha Christine, watch out! He will claim the throne for sure! It has began. The journey has began.

I could not put this book down! The story is very unconventional, and an extremely interesting concept, which made it a real page-turner for me. Can't wait for the second one to come out!
