Flipper

Having grown up in the generation after Flipper originally rode the waves, I grew up with reruns, but I loved that dolphin who influenced so much of my life and love of animals. When they remade Flipper I had to take a look (albeit later, on DVD). and found it to be a sweet, fun remake. Not at all true to the original and frankly, other than the names of characters, not much reminded me of that original. But that’s okay. It doesn’t always have to. So looking at this Flipper, with Elijah Wood and Paul Hogan taking over the human leads, it was and remains charming. No, it doesn’t live up to the originals at all - for me. But it’s still fun. And I give it a 5 star because - on its own - I enjoy it. For me there is a lot of hoaky here, but I still have fun watching.When Woods (Sandy) visits his uncle (Porter) in Florida, the kid isn’t happy. Family life isn’t great and he’s trying to grow in his teen years. Meeting a few locals Woods/Sandy starts to enjoy where he’s at - if not his uncle - and soon meets the best local of all: Flipper, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. Together they have adventures until a local fisherman decides Flipper is responsible for things going bad around the waters. You know, rather than what he’s doing. But Woods/Sandy, Flipper, and their friends take action and win the day.This is a fun film and I enjoy it. It’s fun for a Sunday afternoon or movie night. My wife and I love it. When Amazon had a good deal on streaming we added it to our library. It’s fun spending a little more time with Flipper, albeit a new version...

Muy buena película.

I have watched this film several times and have enjoyed it enough to finally buy a copy. I bought this movie because of the charismatic Paul Hogan. It's not quite the same as most of his other films because he is not the main star of the film (Elijah Wood is) and it is a family movie, but he is still a delight and the film is worth owning because of him in My opinion.

This is a perfect movie to set and gather in the living room on family night! The kids loved this one.

I loved watching this movie the last time I watched it when I was 5 years old and back in middle school.

I remember seeing this movie in the theatre, and on TV. How you feel about this movie, I think, is how much you remember about the original movies and TV series back in the 1960's. This doesn't totally measure up to them, BUT, it's a nice retelling of the story. Which if you don't remember the 1960's stuff, you'll probably like this movie better, BUT, again, it's a nice retelling, or take on the story.

I didn't expect much from this blu ray release of Flippe. It is a movie I grew up with and have cherished closely. The transfer of this is amazing. In a movie with so much water, HD is easy to pick out both the strengths and weaknesses. The audio of this movie is cleaned up a lot from past releases, and HD streams. The picture is so smooth. Although it was from the mid 90s, it looks as if it were filmed recently. The extras aren't much to write home about, but any fan of this movie will be happy enough with a good quality transfer available at a very nice price.

Great movie. Entertaining for both children and adults. I enjoyed it (not telling my age!), my big brother (73yrs) enjoyed it and now my cousin (74 yrs) wants to watch it. It was purchased for a 6 and 8 year old but we got to it first!

Elijah Wood als etwa 14-jähriger und der durchtrainiert-ledrige Paul Hogan spielen in diesem Tropeninsel-Streifen den schon vom im Jahre 1963 gedrehten Ur-Film her bekannten Sandy Ricks respektive Porter Ricks. Allerdings fehlen die vielleicht den meisten auch bekannten Gestalten aus der Serie, wie der etwas pummeligere Bruder Bud Ricks, die mit dem Film hier und dem Urstreifen eigentlich nur wenig zu tun hat. Es handelt sich auch nicht unbedingt um einen reinen Flipper-Film, in dem der piffige Zahnwal die Hauptrolle spielt. Es ist auch ein umweltkritisches Werk und nicht zuletzt greift der Film auch wieder die Probleme desorientierter Pubertierender Kinder auf, und die Kollisionen mit Erwachsenen, die fest im Leben stehen und ihre Erfahrungen gemacht haben. Sandy also kommt auf eine Insel, auf der sein Onkel Porter als tagediebiger Fischer mehr schlecht als recht lebt, aber ganz zufrieden ist. Anfangs will Sandy so schnell es geht verschwinden, schon weil er bald ein Konzert gebucht hat, aber seine Mutter bestand darauf, dass er die Ferien beim Südsee-Onkel verbringt. Alles ändert sich, als ein Delfin seinen Weg kreuzt, bzw. ihm regelrecht nach schwimmt. Soweit so nett, denn er lernt dadurch auch ein hübsches Mädel kennen, und zusammen mit dem etwas schüchternen, aber hoch intelligenten Söhnchen der Freundin von Porter, einer Meeresbiologin, haben sie viel Spaß, überspannen aber den Bogen auch ganz ordentlich. Dann gibt's noch den miesepetrig-gaunerigen Dirk Morane, der sich aufführt wie die Axt im Wald, Touristen rumkutschiert auf seinem Boot und dabei vor nichts Rücksicht nimmt...Als der mit kriegt, dass Porters Neffe einen Delfin hat, beschwert er sich, dass dieser die immer weniger werdenden Fische noch zusätzlich dezimiert, ja sogar der Delfin die Hauptursache für die immer schlechteren Fangquoten sei. Bald kommt die Wasserpolizei und Flipper soll in ein Aquarium...kann aber flüchten und findet tatsächlich zu den Ricks zurück...allerdings geht es ihm nicht gut. Es stellt sich raus, dass er vergiftet ist...Sandy und seine Freundin, die nach dem Abtransport des Delfins dennoch nach ihm Ausschau gehalten haben, habe außerdem ein paar Tage zuvor ein Boot gesehen in der Dämmerung, aus dem Fässer geworfen wurden - sehr verdächtige Fässer...nun wird den Ricks klar, dass hinter dem Fischrückgang mehr stecken könnte...Nicht zuletzt war Porters Freundin auch noch bei der Navi...Flipper zieht los, und sucht die Fässer, und dann gibt es auch noch den bösartigen Hammerhai, der in der Gegend sein flachköpfiges Fressdasein führt...Schöne Unterhaltung für die ganze Familie, ohne große Dramen und Gewalt, viel Herz und Humor...hatte ihn seit Jahren verpackt im Regal, gestern geschaut! Lohnt sich! Deckt sich mit der Story des 1963er Films in weiten Teilen, ist aber pfiffiger und lustiger gemacht.
