Bright light, just didn't fit the can
Physically-Eh( minus 2 stars)- didn't quite line up with the ceiling, couldn't get it to stay inserted in the can.Electronically- worked wonderfully, bright light. Unfortunately kept sliding down and we couldn't adjust the pins correctly.

Finally
An LED alternative that is essentially everything it claims to be. Or that I could wish it to be; even the price is not unreasonable. It hit 110° today about 4 PM. My 3"X3" office closet is never a pleasant place to be, but when the house cooks for a few days in three-digit temperatures it is a walk-in oven. And that's without the light on.Which was until recently a 75 watt eyeball-style can fixture. I installed a dimmer just to keep the heat down. I had never considered CFL mostly due to light color temp and non-dimmability, even the "dimmables".So the GE LED flood was a welcome surprise and an immeasurable improvement.I have been wanting to try a replacement for PAR flood and spotlights for a long time, but they have long been out of the price range. The GE has dropped somewhat since their introduction, and the quality in almost all regards has contrariwise risen. For a great number of reasons, although not checked out any competing models, I was immediately impressed by this "bulb" and immediately recognized a few significant reasons to consider an upgrade. One thing puzzles me, with so many screw-in replacement LED floods available, are there that many cans that a simple solution will not fit? LED floods tend to run a lot smaller than incandescents, so I imagine this is one way of addressing the situation. I appreciate the design of this unit, but unless there was a glaring need to retrim a can I would probably go with the simple bulb change first.Changeout was a snap, the "bulb"- it is actually a self-contained fixture- comes with a light socket pigtail that mates to a molded body 2 pin connector. For a standard PAR-30 screw-in it would be as simple as removing the old lamp, pulling off the trim, screwing in the pigtail then pushing the device up into the can. The color and temp of the light is perfectly acceptable and nearly identical to the one that originally occupied this fixture. I compared it to the few remaining original fixed fixtures- milk glass lenses- and the difference was subtle. The LED is not as diffuse as the lens, but then it is also not a piercingly hot flood, either. The instant-on of the LED is still noticeable to one who has a lifetime of only the millisecond warm-up of a filament, but that's just me. I notice it in new autos as well, and it reminded me of incandescent that run on 220V.I know what happens when you run a 110 bulb at 220v, but whatever an LED might do will remain a mystery for now.The box lists a number of dimmers that are compatible with the fixture, which of course I did not read. I use the same switch throughout the house, and as with the bulbs themselves, a major retrofit is not likely. They performed acceptably, a bit notchy perhaps- probably just due to a combination of the age of the switch and the way that the LED reacts to a simple rheostat-type controller. But it works well enough, and while in this application will likely not be dimmed often, it was still a good test.I was concerned that the spring clips on the GE might grab something that they might not want to release at some point in the future, but this was not the case. They slid in perfectly and held tightly, but pulled right back out with ease. All of my fixtures here are 8" diameter, but the GE is 7.5"- not really a problem, but if I were planning a large scale upgrade I would certainly want to check the old cans first- I am sure an adapter ring could fill the void, but it would also cut down on the ease of installation quite a bit.Drawing 10 watts instead of even a dimmed 75 is an obviously huge savings. Whether or not it will ever reach a payoff point of course depends on use, and would certainly be aided by replacing all the fixtures in the house.Of which there are many. The designer went nuts over recessed lighting, I count 22 in the house. All sucking energy like it was 1969.In any case, for now, I do not have to think about that again, at least not in my closet. When the price falls and more varieties are available, I would not think twice about retrofitting all of them. Especially the ones in the 14' ceiling.
