MagLiteSolitaire LED 1AAA Flashlight

The Solitaire LED is the best flashlight you can put ono your keychain
Once upon a time flashlights were not waterproof and the batteries were next to useless. Maglite came along many years ago and set a new standard and over time the larger models became the average policeman's best friend. Although waterproof, reliable, virtually indestructable, and made in America, there were three problems that the user couldn't really do anything about: the batteries were easily drained, the bulbs were battery-draining incandescents, and the beam had to be focused every time for optimum lighting. Fortunately for us, times have changed and these problems have been resolved. Battery technology is better than ever and extremely energy-efficient LEDs (light-emitting diodes) have replaced the incandescent bulbs in most flashlights so there is no need for focusing. However, Maglite, for whatever reason, was slow to jump on the LED bandwagon.Several years ago when LED flashlights flooded the market, Maglite flashlights could only be had with the ancient incandescent bulbs. I had been using the Maglite Solitaire flashlights for years as keychain lights and the ONLY thing I hated about them was the time consuming futzing with the bezel every time to get the maximum brightness. I wrote Maglite with my complaint and asked them why they didn't transition to the LED like everyone else. I never got a response so I started using LED keychain lights from Fenix as they also used a single AAA battery.Recently, I passed by the flashlight section in the local ChinaMart and was surprised to discover that Maglites of various sizes were finally available with LEDs. As they didn't have any Solitaires available, I ordered this one off Amazon and wasn't disappointed.I spend a lot of time outdoors at night and in dark places due to the nature of my work so I rely heavily on headlamps and flashlights of all sizes that I use daily. A keychain light of any kind is always useful especially if it is rugged and water resistant. I've used them all and since Maglite has now moved into the 21st century with the rest of us I've picked up where I left off. This improved version of the Solitaire is easily turned on with a quick turn of the bezel and instantly a stong, bright light instantly floods the area with a very usable beam, 100 times better than the older model with its chronically anemic bulb. I'm a firm believer in being prepared for emergencies and having one these little gems on your own keychain can reliably light your way out of a dark situation. This new model of the Maglite Solitaire is sexier than kneesocks on a rooster and I am 100% satisfied.

Bright light, easy to fit in pocket. Decent battery life.
I had two I used once to several times a day for over two years; both were going strong until I lost one. My local hardware store doesn't stock them anymore, so Amazon to the rescue.Notes: Light not coming on without tapping usually means the battery is going. As with all flashlights, clean the spring and contacts every 3 or 4 battery changes or months, whichever is first. I use three cotton swabs - vinegar, then water, then dry.

Bright light, convenient size
I work in healthcare, often visiting patients in the early morning and examining dressings/wounds. This light is easy to carry alongside my ID badge, provides ample light in a dark room. Sturdy build too!

Lasts about a year, then the switch fails
I'm embarrassed to say that I've owned three of these. The first one lasted about four years. After that, the switch started working intermittently and then failed altogether. The next two lasted only one year each, with the same failure mode. I sure liked having a flashlight in my pocket at all times, but it would be nice to have one that lasts longer than the battery that's in it.

Great light, just wish it was a bit brighter. Overall Maglites are all good product.
Never found a bad Maglite product.

Very Small, Very Bright Light
I have owned several of the older incandescent MagLite Solitaire flashlights over the years. The incandescent ones put out a pretty weak beam. I never found them very useful just because they were too dim.I had been needing an EDC flashlight that was very small. I wanted something that could easily go in my pocket without it being bulky. This LED MagLite is the perfect size to slip in a pocket and it puts out a surprisingly bright beam of light off just the one AAA battery.I would highly recommend this light to anyone.

awesome
i carry it everyday. it's light weight and bright. I own brighter mag lights, but this one gets used the most. i use eneloop rechargeables in it. i think almost anyone could benefit from this flashlight, especially if you live in areas that get dark earlier in the winter. the build quality is top notch. i haven't had any problems with the light accidentally switching on in my pocket either. for the size this thing really lights up quite a large area. the focus area can be adjusted as well while still lighting up a fairly wide surrounding area. This flashlight is bright and made in the U.S.A!
