Budget amp
The clean channel is workable but lets face it most of us by this style amp for rock/metal. Channel 2 with the built in boost is great for rhythm. Channel 3 is high gain and can be pushed more with the built in boost. This is good for solos, live applications, and for being heard in the mix.I boosted channel 2 with a maxon 808x and it works very well I just did not enjoy the maxon. For me the built in boost works fine and doesnt overly do the mids and treble. I will test out with a fortin grind or Tubescreamer and update my review. The amp is very loud and I can get decent tones at low volume. I am running the head through a 2x12 RD V30 cab.I am relatively new to tube amps having played the Blackstar 60w Metal and the Peavey 6505 mini. I prefer the Randall Diavlo over both those amps. The boxing did arrive a little beat up and there are 2 or 3 marks on the head itself. Foot switch works well and I have gotten an hour or two of playing with no issues.Update: Been playing at louder volumes for practice and this amp is very hard to dial in. The sound is very dry and to get good clear gain while boosted, you lose a little tone and sustain. Bedroom volumes the amp sounded great, now in a band situation even boosted is mush and harshness. I have tried a maxon 808x, Ts-9 and fortin grind. It lacks the warmth and tone of a Mesa.

Excellent product. Worksmanship is flawless
Excellent product. Worksmanship is flawless. Goes incredibly loud. Distortion for days. This amp is surprisingly versatile. The clean channel is beautiful and articulate, although it might not stay sparkly clean at higher volume levels. But at bedroom and basement jam levels, it sounds fantastic. You can roll off the gain a bit and get a nice shimmering chord sound that works well for indie and grunge rock styles. The boost function acts like an overdrive pedal volume boost, and really gives the amp another level of harmonic sound. This thing will go quite heavy although once you turn the gain knob past 4:00 it starts to muddy up a bit. I like it best at around 2:00 for a saturated lead sound. All in all, this is a real bang for your buck. I hear swapping the tubes wakes this guy up even further.

and love the way they pair
This amp does everything I could hope for, notwithstanding the features I know it does not have. I read reviews claiming its clean tones aren't clean, but with the gain down low, even with high output pickups I get decent enough cleans if I would ever need them. However, that is far from why I bought this little beast. I play it through a Kustom Defender 1x12 cabinet, and love the way they pair, at least for now. I may eventually replace the speaker for better impedance matching, but I have no complaints. My plans for the future with this are to test the XLR output, and to see how the tone can be further shaped with an EQ pedal, and maybe adding a compressor in front and some time-based effects in the loop. I'm also debating maybe a boost before the input to act like a switchable channel, and maybe playing with a few other ideas.I had heard "tube volume" is louder than solid state, and let me tell you: This little guy seems as loud, if not louder, than the 12 watt practice amp I used to use regularly. It's a blast!

Otherwise the sound is good and musical
Lotta reviews say this is a high gain amp with lots of gain on tap. Be aware that this is not quite true. The gain is growly and does not saturate. The included Ruby tubes are veeeery trebley especially on the cleans. I'm debating a tube switch, adding an MXR 10 band eq, or just shipping it back. I wanted an all-in-one high gain head and this is not it. To get anywhere near saturated I needed to run the boost at all times. Otherwise the sound is good and musical, just needs a bit of help and I didn't want to run pedals on this rig.I tried this with two different guitars, a stock Jackson late-80's soloist, and my custom OAF 8 string with Blackout pups. Using a Budda 4x10 cabinet, which if anything should have better dispersion at lower volumes than 12" speakers.I've read some reviews saying assembly on these is iffy and to check the tube pins and such. I haven't done that yet. I will give it another run though tonight and check the tubes, then I will have to decide what to do with it.

I was looking for a good practice amp that can be played at bedroom levels
I was looking for a good practice amp that can be played at bedroom levels. First I ordered a Peavey 6505mh, it stopped working after ten minutes. Sent it back and got another, ten minutes in the same thing happened. They apparently biased there amps wrong and they run too hot. So I ordered the Diavlo 5 and a Seymour Duncan 805 for the same price. I play death metal and this amp will get you there especially with the overdrive. It sounds much better than the 6505 and it works. It doesn't have an EQ, but the TSS tone and gain knobs can get a ton of good tones. This is why I mention the Duncan 805 it gives you an EQ to shape your tone even more. If you get the randall diavlo 12 inch speaker it gets some pretty good low end. \m/

Small amp, big grind.
This amp is killer. I use to have a Randall Cyclone in my hay day and had to downsize over the years. This little guy certainly has amazing distortion. I have it going through a Randall RG 2x12 cab. It rips and is certainly worthy of gigging. My style is metal and hard rock and it can easily satisfy those genres. If you like really hard hitting grinding distortion, this amp is for you. I have had many amps over the years such as Fender , Mesa Boogie, etc....and to me, nothing compares to Randall.

Returning the Refurb
I am giving this amp 4 out of 5 otherwise they will not post my review. The amp I received was not brand new and was obviously opened and re packed. the amp work for less than 5 minutes before is simply fizzled out and the sad smell of burning filled the room. I didn't even get the chance to turn the dials up past 2 o'clock. My only guess is this was a refurb they tried to pass off as new. I was very happy for a solid 2 minutes.

1 watts?

Amazing amp
Got this amp from amazon (RD45H Diavlo) not the 5W, the best deal of the year for me.Some reviews claim that amps amazon was selling were used and in some cases defective. I don't know if I was lucky or that guy was the unlucky one but the one I got is new, sounds amazing and I've been using it almost daily since January 2020 and no issues at all.I

Sound is amazing for a 5 watt has lots of power and thick as hell for great metal tones. Plus can play in my apartment without being to loud. Well worth the price. Came professionally packed in 2 boxes with foam.
