The Very Best of John Rutter

Great CD if you're into choirs and John Rutter's music. The more I listen, the more the songs, even those that are new to me, grow on me. This is very restful music, good to have on in the background or to listen to while doing the ironing. The voices of the trebles and the altos blend so well and John Rutter's arrangements are always brilliant. I love the way he can take an old hymn and put a new tune to it so that it becomes a completely new and intriguing song. I remember learning For the Beauty of the Earth to a very boring tune when I was at school. The first time I heard it to John Rutter's arrangement, it brought tears to my eyes and I didn't recognise it as the same song until months later. I can't say I always like new tunes to old hymns, but I always like those by John Rutter!

I love all there is about John Rutter. To me, he can do no wrong. Christmas and winter - my favourite season - and I can listen to "The best of John Rutter" and all his choral and Christmassy music allthe time. It may be cold outside but this cd and, indeed, his entire repertoire will warm you through and through. You may find some tracks repeated from his other cds but many other artists repeat their works on different cds too. Worth 5 stars, a delightful buy and a good start for any newcomer to the world of J.R., with quick delivery at a great price from Amazon.... you won't be disappointed.

At choir we have been singing a lot of John Rutter, and I purchased this DVD so that I could learn how to sing some of songs, carols etc properly. It's easier to hear the music sung properly than to make the same mistakes all the time, one can then correct ones self. Also it is a lovely album to just to sit back and listen too.
