Steiner Predator Series Hunting Binoculars

If you're used to roof prisms and/or a center focus wheels these will take some getting used to. First, the Auto Focus absolutely works as described. Adjust the diopters once (if needed from the default setting) and then let your eyes focus on the subject as you look around. This was the part I had to get accustomed to. Instinct is to reach up to the focus when changing ranges. With the Steiner AF you just need to wait a moment while your eyes adjust. Odd at first but quickly gotten used to. The CAT coating (with its ridiculously 90s-looking logo stuck on the side) seems to work well despite a slight rose-tinge in brighter light. I get VERY good depth perception and peering into darker sections of woods was easy and seemed every bit as bright as my naked eye. Second; if you're only familiar with the roof prism binos (or haven't used porros in a while) you'll realize there are a few tradeoffs. Porros are the older style but produce clearer images with wider fields of view (because the light passes through fewer prisms) BUT they are physically larger. This 8x30 is as large as (but much lighter than) my 10x40 Leupold roof prisms (when perpendicular to each other). Comfort-wise, with the open frame these carry like a set of roof prisms. The eye-cups are sized nicely (for me, anyway). There's plenty of adjustment in the hinge for different faces. I can hold them comfortably single or double handed for quite some time. Overall, these are a solid set of German-made optics at a reasonable price.

Fantastic binoculars. Used them daily for a week viewing land and marine wildlife while on vacation. Clear glass, great contrast, no eye strain. Auto focus makes acquisition fast and hassle free. Textured surface offers positive grip regardless of conditions.

Love these binoculars. I have 95% IPD (Interpupillary Distance) and most binoculars do not have enough spacing between the oculars to get a correct view. These binoculars have enough IPD to give a correct view, at least up to 7.3 cm. They will work for wider IPD, but you need to verify they work for you. With the eyes fully in the eye cups and properly spaced IPD, there should be no blacking out of portions of the image if you move your eyes slightly. If you wear glasses your prescription should have an IPD measurement. I have Steiner Predator roof prism binoculars that do not adjust to my IPD, love them except for the IPD problem. My wife now has them, as she has more normal IPD. In my experience, porro prism binoculars accommodate wide IDP better than roof prism binoculars. Practically no binocular manufacturer specifies IPD, so you need to try the binoculars to see if they fit. Amazon's return policy make this no risk and I just bought the 10 power version of these binoculars for a little more reach. Since i already had a set of 8x 42mm Predator binoculars these were no surprise on the clarity and color shift. The smaller objective lenses make these binoculars much lighter, smaller and easier to grip. I use these in my vehicle for general observation of terrain and animals and the color cast makes animals easier to spot. The single focus setting allows you to track objects without refocusing, important for fast moving subjects coming at you or moving away (birds and aircraft). Cons: No settings mark for oculars, so if more than one person is using the binoculars they need to be reset each time you switch users. Resetting is easy to do, but takes time and you might lose sight of a moving object during that period. Best for one user. Not good for serious bird watching. The color cast and 20 meter minimum focusing distance can make identification difficult. Not good for night observation. The objective lenses are too small for good night vision, best use from late dawn to early twilight. I have 7 x50mm and 8 x 56mm binoculars for low light conditions. Finally, the neck strap is OK, but could be wider and padded to make it more comfortable. All in all, I think these are great binoculars for the price, even better values when Amazon has them on sale.

The quality of the glass is unbelievable. The clarity and not of needing to focus on what you are looking at is a time saver. I would recommend these to any hunter.

I had purchased a pair of Steiner 7x50 military-marine binos for deer hunting last year due to the auto-focus feature. The ability to set each eyepiece once, then never having to worry about focusing again is incredible. After using them, they were just too heavy to carry with my stand/bow/gear. I purchased these for weight reduction and the auto-focus. These are the perfect deer hunting bino. Extremely light weight, open bridge design for one handed grip, auto-focus (can't say this enough), CAT brown color enhancement, and German-made Steiner quality optics at this price range is unbeatable. Come with a case, eyepiece rain cover, and caps. Perfect binos for whitetail deer woodland hunting, period.

Steiner Predator AF 8x30 Binoculars After many decades of service my trusty Binolux 7x35 made in Japan binoculars fell, and well, I was sad. Fast forward to 2020 and I get to try these Steiner 8x30 binoculars. These are technically hunting binoculars but they’re still a quality set and I’m good with that. I primarily use them when going to ball games and general purpose use when I’m out and about. I don’t hunt. Now we can’t go to ball games so I just did some normal testing and evaluation. Upon opening the box you are presented with the protective case holding the binoculars and all the accessories. The instructions with the cleaning cloth is also in the box. I got to the English section and found the instructions not helpful enough. Firstly it is covering two different models and I found it confusing. That was compounded with pictures that were both small and difficult to see clearly. I’m still unsure where the little neoprene sleeves go. There’s a neck or shoulder strap but not one of each. There’s a couple of loop things I’m still figuring out what they’re for. I do wish the instructions were better. They did help me set up the optics and they work better than my old set. I was able to set the optics up to see clearly without my glasses. That’s unusual for me as I’m astigmatic and have poor eyes. The eye cups do fold flat so you can use them with eyeglasses on. I prefer the feel of looking through them with my eyeglasses off. As for the optics they are crystal clear. After adjust to my eyes I couldn’t believe how bright and clear my field of vision was. Overall I’m very pleased with the performance of the binoculars and the quality of the construction, waterproofing and case. You hold these in your hands and you know you’re holding a great set of binoculars. I think they are worthy of giving them a try and see what you think of them.

Best binoculars I've ever used no need to focus they are always in focus ( don't know how but 3 of us wear glasses all different prescriptions and all can see perfectly) very good quality.

Penso che sia un ottimo binocolo per il costo. Per portatori di occhiali non è un problema usarlo bisogna solo ribaltare i gusci attorno agli oculari. Peso non eccessivo, tenendo conto che si tratta di un prismi di porro ed è dovuto alla gommatura spessa, molto protettiva; sembra buona l’impermeabilità ma per il momento non mi è capitato di averne bisogno.

Brilliant 100% quality, very well made a little heavy for size but sit perfectly in the hands . Just a little heads up, takes a little while to set the focus first one eye then the other for your eye sight. There are you tube videos on how to do it, if like me you dont read the instructions till after But your eyes 👀 will be quickly adjusted to the binoculars. For me and my eye site 69yrs old these are the best I have ever bought. Image clarity is really clear and bright for viewing. 8 x 30 brilliant. Tried to get a pair of the military ones at 10 x 50 but just to realy heavy for me to use.
