New Anchor Book of Hardanger Embroidery Stitches
I was very disappointed when I discovered that this "New" book was just a reprint in larger size of the small (half size) Anchor book I had purchased a couple years ago. There should be a disclaimer on the front of this book so one doesn't buy the same book thinking this is truly a "new" book. The information in the book is just great however. Any hardanger enthusiast or beginner needs one of these in their collection.

Very helpful
I needed a refresher course on the various stitches. This book is just what I was looking for. It is in very good condition. I was hoping to see some pattern ideas but there are none in the book; however that would have been a bonus!

Not as complete as I wanted
While this book shows many hardanger stitches, the directions are wanting with regard to detail. I think if a person had more experience with this type of embroidery it would be more helpful. That being said, after I have some experience under my belt, this book should still prove to be a great addition to my library.Good reference book for the more experienced.

Good pattern resource
This book is packed with good ideas to create your own Hardanger project. After the usual introduction explaining what's needed for Hardanger embroidery (threads, scissors, fabric and so on), the book begins by explaining the simplest stitches like the satin one. To every new explained stitch corresponds a new pattern including the new stitch and the old previously explained ones. Charts are easy to read, clear and big enough to follow the procedure carefully. The book ends with some project that even if not particularly brilliant, they can be a good starting point to create your own.Good to remember that charts are black and white but they are always coupled to a picture of the effective work and the single steps are clearly explained by other pictures.

True beginner
I am a true beginner of Hardanger embroidery-but have lots of experience in the fiber arts field. I found this book to be easy to understand and follow. The pattern and picture compliment each other. If the pattern was not clear the picture was large enough that I could figure out what was supposed to happen. The projects build upon each other thus reinforcing the stitches learned. I have completed the first 2 samples with some small mistakes but still looks great. Would recommend this book. Love the fiber arts!! Ramona

Everyone should try it!
Hardanger has a fairly low following compared with other stitching techniques but to those of us who actually do it, it is just the best ever. More difficult patterns are hard to find but they are there to be had. The work is so rewarding and I can well understand why Norway is so proud of it.

Excellent book showing the stitches very clearly and with very clear written instructions. I had borrowed the small compact (older?) version from the library but I very much like this larger format. Excellent projects included. My only problem is which one to do first! Would recommend very highly. If you have never tried hardanger before then have a look at this book and you will soon be hooked on yet another craft.

GOOD
This was bought for my wife. She is very "into" sewing etc., and she found it very useful. I'm seeing the benefit all around me!
