Fun Movie With a Message
If you're sensitive about a lot of partial nudity and bad language, you may want to skip this one, but if you can get past that, this is a totally enjoyable movie. At first the has-been big American major leaguer (Tom Selleck) finds himself in constant conflict with the Japanese culture when he's traded to a Japanese team. But, as time goes on, he learns to love and respect the people and becomes a better version of himself in the process--and he inspires them to be an amazing ball team themselves. Oh, and he falls in love with the team manager's daughter, of course.

A Solid Double
A fish out of water tale with a decent theme. Not as thrilling as most but a bit more realistic. I enjoyed the spotlight that was put on the differences between the cultures of Japanese and American baseball teams. Worth a watch and a re-watch.

A Bit Goofy; But Liked It
It was a bit silly, but fun, with some good life lessons learned.

Very Good
I never understand why studios include unnecessary elements in order to raise the viewer rating. Except for some language and a few scenes, this is a quality family movie. Get the cleaned-up-for-TV version and watch it together.

Very enjoyable
Anyone over the age of maybe 10 can figure out whatβs going to happen in this movie, and it does. But itβs all done nicely with Selleck doing a great job as the gaijin baseball player in Japan, and a gorgeous and bright Japanese woman as his romantic interest. The complaints about nudity, by the way, are silly. The woman is never nude, the baseball team it seen slightly nude from the rear as they wash up before jumping into the pool as is the Japanese custom. This is a family film, and one of the best.

Great movie
Tom Selleck does a great job in this comedic role as a ball player with a bad attitude.

Japanese Baseball gaijin comedy
Fading baseball star, Jack Elliot (Tom Selleck) suffers a blow to his massive ego when his home team, the New York Yankees sell him to the Chunichi Dragons in Nagoya, Japan. The aging prima donna soon clashes with the manager, (Ken Takakura) and finds love with his daughter, publicist, (Aya Takanashi) Hiroko Uchiyama. Elliot soons is an outsider (a gaijin) whose only friend is an American ball player, Max 'Hammer' Dubois (Dennis Haysbert) while alienating everyone else. This is tongue-in-cheek comedy that will charm its way into your funnybone.

A classic movie for a good evening of entertainment
A classic movie for a good evening of entertainment. The plot are good and the with the clashing of cultures in a good sense of humour, it comes out well. They have to bring more of these movies on DVD.
