Head Hunters – And Other Savages
To say it up front – I was deeply moved by the film and I would hardly call it a horror movie. It is about courage, survival, greed, written and unwritten laws being broken, violated or honoured. It is a story about love and hate, good and evil. It is a real life story reflecting all these traits and feelings of two different young adults out of two different communities, one so called civilised and one so called primitive indigenous. When you watch the movie – reflect on where the savages are.The story is quite suspenseful driven by revenge and love. It is brilliantly played by basically all actors. The horrific scenes are kept short and to the minimum required for the story. There is plenty of natural nudity, hardly erotic, very tastefully presented by beautiful / handsome actors. Over and above the film is awash with wonderful sceneries re-mastered into good picture quality.I consider it a masterpiece.

Don’t judge a DVD by its cover!
I assumed this was going to be a cartoon-style film, maybe a bit jokey, tongue in cheek about a girl getting into trouble with some Amazonian natives. How wrong could I be?! The violence is incredibly graphic, lingering even. I had to look away a few times to avoid it! Which is a shame because at heart it is quite a well made film. The story is totally believable, well-acted and beautifully filmed (some great footage of wildlife Attenborough would have been proud of). And I have to disagree with other reviewers saying the nudity is gratuitous. It feels totally natural: given the number of naked bodies the director has been sparing with the ‘full-frontal’ shots. OK, it’s dubbed – I guess from Italian looking at the names of the crew – but they chose to allow the local Amazonians to speak without any dubbing or subtitles, and this seemed very natural.I’ve not heard of ‘grindhouse’ movies before – I guess it’s something like ‘slasher’ without the screams. Maybe it was felt appropriate at the time, but I hope if made again today we’d be spared the blood and gore.

"..A LATE 80'S CLASSIC.."
This review is for the film and the 88Films Blu-ray.PLOT...A young woman seeks vengeance and finds love when her parents are killed in the Amazon and she is taken prisoner by an indigenous tribe of head-hunters.Amazonia, also know as White slave is another cult classic underrated 80's gem, a late entry to the jungle cannibal theme of popular movies back then, which actually only has mention to cannibals it don't show any cannibalism. this movie is more of a white slave revenge theme with a hint of a love story, one woman's true account of what happened to her after a tribe captured her and murdered her mother and father. although it says its based on a true story its actually still a fictional movie. It however is a really great story that keeps you interested throughout, well paced out with plenty of nudity consistently throughout mainly from the lovely lead actress Elvire Audray, and of course plenty of the red stuff! Blood and gore all over the screen with the majority of it being head decapitations. all good practical effects, great soundtrack, great locations, its certainly another 80's classic to add to the collection.Blu-ray has a great HD picture.Features include trailer, interview (14mins) featurette (51mins)Region FREE ABC. Running time 90mins UNCUT. 1985/2018.Plays in Italian with English subtitles, or dubbed English which is not too bad.

Check mark on every item in the list
Everything the recurring audience for this type of thing looks for and expects: Gratuitous nudity of both sexes, a fairly significant amount of torture, carnage and degradation, real animals preying and munching after each other, etc... Also, a plot almost perfectly xeroxed from Man From Deep River (another rip off, in turn), including the tear-jerking love element and the addition of a revenge twist for good measure. However, there is one exception: Even though there is mention of cannibalism, there are no depictions of such; it may not be, therefore, a real cannibal flick for many. The quality for this particular release is VHS transfer from several generations ago. However, given the fairly reasonable price and the gimmicks Full Moon usually throws in, I am gonna say it feels like I went back in time and rented it at my local Smiths or Major Video. Even though I know there are better prints out there, I'll settle with this one. It's not worth it otherwise... I'd say the other title worth checking out from this series is Trauma, AKA Red Rings of Fear (the final and weakest film in the intended trilogy for which Massimo Dallamano directed the first two entries: What Have You Done to Solange and What Have You Done with Our Daughters, not available by anybody else and a decent one- time watch, at least). Yeah, yeah, Elvire Audray may have been the worst actress ever, but I couldn't keep my eyes off her and her fellow actresses...

Qui est in qui est out ?
Cette histoire laisse songeur ! Qui sera la plus apte socialement à vivre sur terre ? Nous les humains "civilisés" ou les tribus amazoniennes ?

I'm So Glad to Have Found This Movie!
I enjoyed watching White Slave because classic exploitation films of this type are so rarely filmed nowadays. It has sex, nudity, tribal violence, murder, and cold-blooded revenge. It's everything a Richard Laymon horror fan such as myself would be into. Now, if you'd like to see additional films of this genre, I would recommend "I Spit On Your Grave" (the 1978 version, the remake just didn't cut it), "Naked Fear", "The Last House On the Left" (original or remake) and "The Wrong Turn" series.
