Topeak MTX BeamRack Bicycle Rear Rack

Installs in just a couple of minutes (spend the extra few dollars and get the fender). Goes on and off in about 30 seconds if you decide to add or remove it for a ride. Strong enough to hold a 2nd battery for my e-bike or just grab mail or small packages from our community mailbox. It's very solid, doesn't shake or rattle and if you need to add a fender to a mountain bike, this is a great option since the fender is short and added to a rigid metal frame. It doesn't shake or slap your tire like 90% of all the long rear fender options, plus you get the option of carrying cargo. It's a no-brainer, plus the company offers a ton of bags and carrying accessories made for this rack too.

This is a wonderful sturdy clip on rack that allows many options for securing your items to the back of a bike. I love that I can transfer the rack between my mountain and road bikes. It’s also nice that I can easily remove the rack and store it elsewhere when it’s not needed. Only issue I initially had was learning how to get my leg over the bike while carrying a bag on the rack!😂

I received the rack yesterday and took it on a 53 mile ride today. The rack worked out well: it did not rotate on the seat post, and it held the DX Trunk Bag perfectly. The Type E beam rack is the right size for a Specialized "medium" frame size; it should work as well on similarly sized frames from other manufacturers also. I have mine all the way down on the seat post, and there is ample clearance below the rack for the rear tire.While attaching this to my bike and taking it on a test ride last night, I discovered that when my left leg was at rest, the quick release lever was rubbing the inside of my thigh. While pedaling it was fine, but I worried that if I made frequent stops, it would start chafing. I could feel the other side slightly as well. I tried raising the rack higher, but that made no difference--it just rubbed at a higher point. I moved my seat slightly forward, and that did not help much either. What I do now is point the quick release lever almost straight up. It is not ideal, but since I do not want a permanently installed rack, this will do fine for now. There must be some other way they could design this system so it might not rub so much.I will admit, however, that after having taken it on a 53 mile ride, I never noticed the clamp, but I was also pedaling most of the time. During the ride, the rack never shifted once. I did not have the bag loaded too heavily, but the rack felt very secure.Getting that quick release lever closed is a chore, especially the first couple of times you use it. The rubber shims needed to be "set" properly. What I did was put some light oil on the underside of the quick release lever where it hits the cap it tightens against, and that helps slightly. Still, if you want your rack to stay put, you really need to crank down on that. I don't see how an allen wrench can help, as with mine, the quick release lever rotates if you try to turn the bolt with the wrench.Despite those little issues it is a well made rack, and the DX bag snaps in nicely. It is stronger than it looks, but do not exceed its weight limit. And use it only on a metal seat post--I could see it crushing a carbon fiber post easily.

This rack is very well built but the little rubber gaskets are extremely hard to install. I used a little WD40 to help the process and discovered that if you get the gaskets lined up and at least partially in place you can use the rack's seat post adjustment lever to get them properly seated. But it takes time and patience!The design could a a bit tweaked to make it easier to install the gaskets, but once they're in the rack is very sturdy and worth the bruised knuckles and sore fingers. The slight upward angled design fits perfectly on my Trek 7200 Multitrack bike.

I actually have a larger frame road bike and had the explorer rack mounted. It worked, but I had two major problems with it. 1) I have larger feet, and with the side bags open, when I pedal, my heals would hit the bags. 2) My bike rack (on my vehicle) did not close correctly, the explorer rack was in the way. I looked at this very closely, and decided to buy the E type instead of the V type, just for the extra height, so when I have the MTX bag on the mount I have plenty of clearance.Keep in mind I have a road bike, and will not be carrying a lot of weight in the bag. Plus, I am a larger guy (6'4"), and feel I have no need to worry about bike feeling "top heavy".This fit the bill just perfect. It has the quick release, so I can remove it when not needed. With the MTX bag installed in the mount, the bag location is directly behind my seat, which gives me plenty of clearance to pedal, and no problems with my bike rack closing properly.I would highly recommend it. Just know that the recommendations are: A type - Smaller bike frames, E type - Average bike frame, V type - Larger bike frame. I say this because not everyone will be trying to solve the same problems I had.

I bought this to take on long (30+ mile) bike rides which may involve picnics and ocean swims and 2000+ elevation along the way, requiring changes of clothes, sunblock, extra water and gear. Or I may do none of those things and ride with the bag half empty to the store. Either way this rack holds my loaded MTX bag securely to where I forget it's back there. The only noticeable difference is the bike handling, with more weight in the rear the front tire lifts more easily. This rack and a loaded MTX Trunk Bag EX adds about 6lbs to my ride. It's mounted to my hard tail and I take it off-road in some nasty bumpy areas. It doesn't even budge, yet super easy to remove when I want to. Love this rack!

I bought this and the Topeak MTX/DXP trunk bag. It was for my son because he really liked the one I had. The bag is very nice but slightly different than my old one (two years older I think), which had a nice map storage section on the very top with pen holder and some addl pockets. The new one that I bought for my son doesn't have this and I was a little disappointed. The beam rack is great though. Clamps to the seat post with custom rubber pads for different size seat posts. Its made to accept the MTX trunk bag... it slides on and is held in place by a nice catch. I give the rack a 5, and the bag a 4.5 since it seems to have less features than the previous model.

It took some research but I bought this rack because it was the heavy duty type that had the side pannier accessory available.You really do need to clamp it down hard to keep it from shifting but it's a solid, good looking rack.The built in bungees are O.K: I don't know how much I would trust them to something valuable and they only extend toward the back of the rack, but they are handy sometimes.I really like the way the modular pannier rack fits and there is a nice reflector included. A mud fender is another option as are a number of custom bags.All in all probably the best MTB rack and bag system available.

Ich hatte anfangs den Typ E bestellt. Ich dachte mir das der am besten an mein Cube Ltd Pro 29" passt. Dem war leider nicht so. Rahmenhöhe ist bei mir 19".Ich habe daraufhin den Typ A bestellt. Der passt sehr gut. Es lässt sich sogar noch eine kleine 0,5l Satteltasche für Werkzeug unter dem Sattel befestigen.Qualität und Verarbeitung sind top. Alles ist sauber verarbeitet und passgenau.Ich nutze allerdings nicht das optionale MTX-Taschenset sondern lege einen Sw-Motech Drybag quer auf den Träger.Funktioniert optimal.Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Had to order this rack as I needed the tire clearance for the rear wheel. Very sturdy and easy to switch from one bike to another. The matching bag fits really well and can withstand lots of bumps on a long commute.

Sirve para cosas muy ligeras. Aún sin llegar al peso de 7 Kg que indica el fabricante, no me siento muy seguro transportando cosas en él. Cómo lo compré con la canasta, queda un poco más cerca del sillín de lo que me gustaría. Creo que es mejor opción el modelo que se fija con tornillos en el cuadro.
