Nice book. The novel leaves a lasting impression in mind. A classic in Bengali literature. The story is a narrative of writer's experience as a manager of an estate of Zaminder. There is an excellent account of the pulchritude nature of forest, simple lives of the marginal people of India, the conflict of expanding economy and need to preserve the ecological wonders of India. At times the feeling and thoughts of the writer transcends the immediate context and explores the ethereal world of sublime consciousness of ours.
