Great for holding diffuser on your lights.
If you have a flash or constant light on a stand and it doesn't support its own diffusion holder, this is the piece you need. I was working with hot tungsten lamps for a video job in a semi-permanent studio by one of my clients, and it was basically a 500 Watt bulb in a dish, which obviously casts a very harsh bright light with lots of shadow. I picked out some shoot-through umbrellas to get some basic diffusion of the light, and added this piece to go in between the light fixture and the stand to hold the umbrella rod. If you have worked with light setups like this before, you should be familiar as it is pretty standard/basic. Like other adapters of this sort, there is a hinge that lets you tilt the light to get a little extra control over where you are aiming. If you are using this with off camera flashes that use a shoe mount, it already comes with that preinstalled. In my case, I didn't need the cold shoe mount (the video lights screw into a 1/4" 20 threaded bolt), so I just removed the shoe mount which revealed exactly the connection I needed underneath. Very useful piece of kit for a simple setup.

Sturdy metal with standard 5/8 receptor...
Take the (1/4-20 3/8-16) adapter out and you're left with an actual 5/8 female, which fits perfectly on standard 5/8 studs -- so many cheapie swivels turn out to be non-standard and don't fit. I mostly use these on the end of magic arms, but they fit great on any of my stands too. These are also a bit sturdier than others I've tried, not that they're asked to carry much weight. I typically do not use the umbrella holder on these kinds of swivels. The cold shoe doesn't have its own locking mechanism! I like having one less thing to fiddle with, but it means you can't double-lock down the flash extra tightly. Pick something else, obviously, if this might be an issue for you.

OK but not the best workmanship
These work as expected, but the machining left a lot to be desired and required modification . I ended up super-gluing the hot shoe to its base screw and collar, then sealing the shoe assembly in Tool Dip ( industrial plastic material ). Had to... the shoe would not stay put... when a flash unit was attached it would rotate and wobble and eventually come loose. Not complaining. At only $ 5.00 each they are affordable and functional . After my low cost mod they are quite suitable.

Precise and secure mount for flash or flash upon radio trigger.
Durable and precisely machined mount of improved design eliminates unnecessary adjustment screw and clamp for photo flashes or other accessories such as radio triggers that typically incorporate their own locking mechanism, reducing failure points, while adding a front stop to achieve an even more secure fit. Serrated rotating hub incorporates multiple stops to provide accurate aiming and prevents slipping when tightened. Devices such as flash triggers with a locking wheel fit very nicely, although pressure may be required to fully advance the locking lever (if desired) on some devices so equipped.

A super value for the money
Sturdy and easy to use. The only negative is that the flash holder part is a "fixed" or non-adjustable clamp, depending 100% on the flash unit to hold the flash unit. Slightly more costly units have built-in clamps that tighten with a thumbscrew, which gives an ease of setup and added security so the flash does not fall off. Knowing of this "soft engineering point, I can deal with it and it is quite functional.

They are just OK.
They are inexpensive and will do the job but the most important part...the cold shoe adaptor on top has NO CLAMP or any way to keep the flash attached to it. The flash simply slides on and can just as easily slide off meaning you could have a broken flash with these. Find one that has a clamp.

Falls apart easily-not for pros
Not for professional shoots. Components fell apart during a 40 person group portrait. Little screw fell out & had to fumble on the ground to find the screw and stand there as 40 people looked on while I reassembled the device. Compact design, too bad it falls apart easily.

Doesn’t work with Nikon Speedlights
These units are inexpensive and well made, but unfortunately they don’t work with Nikon Speedlights. I bought the updated version with the round locking wheel attachment for the Cold Shoe. I have the Nikon SB800 and the SB900 Speedlights. For some reason the SB900 doesn’t fit inside the Cold Shoe. If I use the round locking wheel with the Cold Shoe, the SB800 is insecure and drops out. This unit has the potential to be good if it worked but in its current form is totally useless if used with Nikon Speedlights. I will now return it.

A good buy
Excellent solution to the ‘how can I set up my smart flashes?’ effectively. Well made, great value for money and very versatile with regard to their ability to fit. Maybe not the absolute best production quality but with care should last a fair while, and certainly worth the money paid!

Ideal Adapter
A great adapter for attaching speedlights to studio stands. I don't know what warmth has got to do with the rating of this product, clearly Amazon doesn't seem to know exactly what the product is for!
