LOUVRE: ALL THE PAINTINGS

Just awesome....nd awsome nd awsome......nd awesome... If u buy this book you don't need to go to the museum.... Just beautiful. U can see the museum in your own place. The photos are small in size but clear. Descriptions r good nd understandable.... But I don't get the DVD with this book.

A wonderful book. This book allows you to look at images of the beautiful paintings in the Louvre, which is a delightful experience for anyone who appreciates art.

It was a bummer, but the fact is Louvre has 30k paintings so digitalizing them at high resolution would be very costly hence, they've done it at low resolution. So for art lovers this book doesn't hold water. Note: the sample version has very high quality, but the book pales in comparison.

I bought all three books of this series from Black Dog & Leventhal. I have to return "The Vatican, all the paintings " for occasional poor printing in the book. The book "Florence, all the paintings" is absolutely stunning and this book "Louvre, all the paintings "is very close to that standard. But before buying this book I was quite tensed as there were so many negative reviews about this book.The main concerns were about the small size of the photos and the poor print quality. First of all I want to make it clear that very few books on painting can match this book when quality of print is considered. It is true that there are many small photos of paintings but this is quite natural when you consider the fact that over 3000 works are there in this book of 800 pages. But it is also true that a substantial number of them are printed quite large and the details of the smaller ones are also clearly visible because of the high quality printing. Lastly,although this is not the ultimate book on Louvre you want to possess you have to have this jewel in your collection.

It is impossible for some one to hope to see all the paintings in the Louvre, up close. So this has to be the next best thing. Beautiful print. Good binding. Definitely recommend

I live across the Atlantic from the Louvre and my visits there are all too infrequent. I realized that this volume would help me remember favorite paintings. I was thrilled to find hundreds of descriptions of major paintings that added to my knowledge as well. I spent about 12 hours with the book just savoring happy memories from time in the Louvre. I was happy to find that the book also contains an excellent history of the painting collection, something I knew little about, even though I was a French History major in college. I found these materials to be fascinating. Beyond that, I loved that the book contains locations for the paintings. As a result, I can plan future trips to the Louvre to make better use of my limited time there. I find that I lose the ability to really focus after two hours, and this book will allow me to spend my time where it will do me the most good. I was astonished to find a searchable DVD that allows me to quickly look up paintings by artist, by collection, by school, and by location. I often do research on paintings, and this tool will save me many hours. I am a complete klutz when it comes to using resources like this, and I mastered how to use it in about three minutes. The directions are very clear. I ran it on Foxfire. It's a much easier way to research the works than handling this large volume. Now, be sure to realize what this book isn't: It isn't an attempt to create large size images in the highest possible definition. You can't do that in one book with so many images. It would take 20 volumes and the result would be priced at over $1,000, I'm sure. I was impressed that 80 percent of the thumbnails were photographed and printed clearly enough so that I could make out the relevant details. The biggest problems occur with the Northern School works because many are so dark to begin with. At the time I ordered the book, it was only $37.50 plus shipping. That's a steal for such a resource. When I first heard about the book, I estimated its price at $250. If you aren't familiar with the Louvre's painting collection, realize that its great strengths are in Italian and French works through the early part of the 19th century. There are many fine paintings from other countries, but the representation is limited. One unintended benefit I received from this book is that it greatly enhanced my understanding of the Christian works in the collection. If that subject is of interest, you'll be blessed by what you see and read. Bravo!

O livro é grande, pesado, mais se 700 páginas! A impressão é excelente, a qualidade do papel também. Melhor comprar online do que durante a viagem devido ao tamanho e peso. O envio deixou a desejar. O livro veio sem um plástico protegendo a capa e as folhas...simplesmente solto na caixa...como o livro é pesado, a caixa estava com a ponta rasgada e algumas páginas estavam com pequenos amassados pelo fato de não estar embalado com plástico antes de colocar na caixa.

Un libro magnífico, como indica el título sólo aparecen las pinturas del museo. Y aún precio fantástico.
