Freedom to measure power data from any bike you've got stashed in the garage is a valuable thing, and until now, it wasn't an option available from PowerTap. The P1 Power Meter Pedals represent a huge step forward for the brand's versatility, measuring power entirely from one mechanism contained in the pedals. If you're looking for data on your output on the roads but decide to step up your XC training midway through the season for a fall race, just swap out the P1 pedals to whichever machine you choose in the same way you'd switch any other pair of pedals. Another benefit of having power measured directly from the pedals is the ability to collect data from each leg. Everyone has a dominant side, and knowing which half of your body works harder during a ride can be extremely beneficial. Once you have the P1 pedals set up, they'll pair easily with your existing head unit, as PowerTap wisely made them compatible with ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart, and to move them between bikes, you won't need any special tools beyond what you'd use to change out a normal set of pedals. PowerTap does deliver the setup with its own cleats and hardware, which you should stick to using exclusively with the pedals to make sure the interface works the way it should, and you can plan on the battery keeping the system running for about 60 hours of pedal-mashing, berm-rallying ride time.

They're OK, but.....
I like these meters. I love the data that they provide. I love the design of these that they made them extremely easy to install and transfer to another bike. They also made it extremely easy to change the batteries. These use 2 triple A batteries. You just use your Allen wrench to unscrew the caps, tilt your bike and out pops the old battery. With all that said, the problem that I have with the meters is that these things have been killing batteries!!!!! When I first got them, I went about a month before I received the low battery notification. To put this into perspective, I ride 2 - 5 times a week. Now, I can't get past three rides before I have to change the batteries. On that third ride, I typically get a notification that my right meter is missing and shortly after that I get the low battery indicator. Because I've been using so many batteries, I switched to using rechargeable batteries. This has been so annoying!!!! I ended up calling PowerTap and they sent me replacement battery cap. These got me excited because I was able to get past a week, but now it's doing the exact same thing! While I like the information that's provided, this battery situation has been a real disappointment! I would return these if I could!

Very disappointed and I would return them if I could
While the data these pedals provide is outstanding, as is the ease of installation and use, the spindle bearings on the right pedal are shot after just a few months of use. No matter what I do, every pedal stroke includes a popping noise and feeling from the bearings. For the price, this should not be an issue, especially given the fact that I've only used these on an indoor stationary trainers, since I'm currently deployed to an area where I can't ride outdoors. Very disappointed and I would return them if I could.

Add power reading to your ride and stats easily with these. Easy to transport to another bike, set up on your garmin a breeze
Easy to set up, install with an Allen wrench not a pedal wrench which is pretty Neat! Set up was easy to follow.have on my Garmin 1030 screen and just works perfect. When I download info seamless. The cleats are unique to this and Xpedo pedals but that is fine.I did not care for the big rotation cleats, opted for the 0 deg version.Picked up a set of Xpedo pedals for another bike so I can use the cleats / shoes on both and they came with2 pairs of cleats to boot! (pun intended)

Great power meter, cleats have too much float
I use a Magellan (go ahead, laugh). Powertap P1 connects just fine and reads power quickly. Did well on a threshold test. No crazy power spikes. Also did well reading peak power during a sprint effort. The cleats have wayyyyyyy too much float but the alternative is to pay $20 extra for no float at all. Not a fan.

Two sets of pedals received did not work
Ordered a set of the new pedals in July direct from the powertap website. Pedals received did not work properly (left pedal did not register on powertap mobile app; left pedal giving double blink error code). Called customer service and was asked about whether I had the old or new battery caps. Expected I would have the "new" caps as I ordered the "new" pedals. Returned the pedals (had to pay shipping). Received 2nd set of pedals. Did not appear these were new pedals so either they attempted to fix the ones I sent back or they sent me a refurbished pair. Really wanted these to work so tried them on indoor trainer. The power readings from both pedals worked but the tension screws were both stripped and could not be adjusted. When I checked the packing slip to prepare to return them noted that they sent me REFURBISHED pedals for the second set. Very unpleased with this level of quality and service and will return for refund. Very disappointed as I had researched these extensively and wanted to support a US-based company established in power measuring. I also have 2 of their trainers (Cyleops) and 1 bike rack (Saris) and had been very pleased with quality, etc. from this company for a few years now so am quite shocked given my recent experience.

Worthless if you're planning on using android as your cycling computer.
Don't waste your money on these if you plan to use Android. Powertap has been ignoring customer requests since at least 2015 for a basic Android app. Without some sort of app to perform a zero offset before each ride there is no guarantee the info you're getting is accurate, nor can you check battery level. Pretty pathetic for $800 premium pedals. Luckily there are some new alternatives out there that look to be more customer friendly.
