Roland Aircraft of WWI: A Centennial Perspective on Great War Airplanes (Great War Aviation Centennial Series)

This is a great addition! The photographs and text are truly 'meat and potatoes'...Modellers and armchair historians(I'm guilty of both!) will be very, very pleased. Mr. j. Herris is the 'Rush Limbaugh' of Great War Aviation Historians-Makes the complex understandable! Any doubts-see his first book on Pfalz aircraft from 'Flying Machines Press' and read his explanation of the small improvements as far as horsepower relative to an early machines' ability to climb! Keep it up, Mr. Herris!

I have most of this series by Jack Herris. This one, like the others is very readable and informative. He provides a lot of hard data, like production statistics, as well as narrative history of the development of the aircraft. The drawings are useful for modelers, as are the color profiles.My only criticism is the duplication of info in the photo captions (repeats of sentences in the text, in some cases word-for-word).

I enjoyed this 206 page book, it has a lot of pictures, details, line drawings, specifications, color templates, and history of L.F.G. Roland aircraft and covered an aircraft that you do not hear all that much about. I bought the book because of a personal interest in reading about WW1 aircraft and think that a modeler would find this book useful if they were building a replica.

This exhaustive history of Roland aircraft is a much needed addition to the literature covering aviation in World War I. Aircraft design and development are presented in a clear and concise style which provides remarkable coverage of detail differences which will be invaluable to modelers. Copious illustrations and color profiles are provided. But the cheap paper used has a detrimental effect on these. Oddly, the period photos come out better than the modern color shots of a surviving DVI in Poland which are disappointingly fuzzy. Nevertheless it is must have for anyone interested in aviation of the period.

Authoritative text. Super period photo reproductions and fine color profiles. The paper it's printed on is only mediocre, which seems to go with print-to-order books. If you are interested in Great War aviation, you should own this book.

Excellent overview of the development and history of Roland aircraft during WW I. Superb illustrations throughout greatly enhance this volume. A must for the student of history or modeler interested in WW I aircraft.

THESE BOOKS ARE GREAT WITH A LOT OF PICTURES I HAVE NOT SEEN BEFORE AND TYPES OF AIRCRAFT THAT ARE COMPLETELY NEW TO ME.

Good overview,but rehashes much of the material found in other sources.Some new and interesting pictures not seen before
