Great Training and Life long tool
This collar was recommended to me by my trainer. At first i was a bit apprehensive but once i saw it in action i was floored at the ability to correct negative behavior. My Golden Retriever is a bit “excitable” and likes to show “affection” to other dogs. I was at a loss on how to get him to stop but when my trainer told me about this collar i ordered it. Sure enough it only took a few corrections and now he rarely shows “affection” to other dogs. It has also allowed for me to work with him on off leash training and having him listen to me when not on a leash or nearby him. It’s a great product, easy to use and worth the cost. I did buy a different collar for the electronic piece so i could clip it on and off much easier.

Excellent training collar for a golden retriever.
Review written in July 2022 - 4 months after the purchase of the 280C, and about 9 years after using a 280NCP.SUMMARY: The 280C is a great upgrade. Smaller collar than the older 280NCP, still with great range and long battery life.I initially used an older Dogra 280NCP collar to train a golden retriever basic obedience. Typical alpha dog, refused to listen. The collar was used primarily on vibrate to get her attention, occasionally on a very low setting (40ish) to reinforce verbal and gesture training commands, and a couple of times at a higher setting to immediately curb dangerous behavior (running into a road, chasing a bear). After that the 280NCP would get occasional use when the dog was off-leash on hikes, in lakes, and in the ocean. That older unit made it 9 years (!!!), including one set of batteries being replaced. In July, the 280NCP stopped working. New batteries didn't fix it, so it was time to replace it. I was pleasantly surprised by the 280C. It's a much smaller receiver, so I imagine even more comfortable for our dog to wear. It worked very well on a beach trip. It was powered on for 12+ hours at a time, and worked perfectly fine in the ocean. No irritation. We were able to call the dog back from several hundred feet away.I would recommend replacing the vinyl (?) collar that comes with the kit with something fabric if the dog is going to wear the collar for long periods of time.

Great product if you have the time and effort to put in !
Great product. Durable and easy to use. I mistakenly e collared my hand at the maximum level and it was extremely painful. I can only imagine what it would do to my dog if I would have placed it on her neck.

Amazed but...
The media could not be loaded. So I plan to write a long term review. I bought a cheaper, vibration only remote before and as much as it helped, the dog ignored me if she was excited and the battery of the collar died in less than a day. I bought this device based on Tom Davis's recommendation (Upstate Canine Academy).Day 1:I am amazed! My 2 years old German Shepherd is a super smart dog that could be also a bit of brat. She does heel but given the opportunity and in the absence of the leash, she would go running towards another dog to play! Not anymore! This collar literally made a HUGE change in her. She did heel best and even without the leash. Now mind you, the device is not magic, and I have been working with her, we have a great connection and training was in progress but this device did it. I shall post a video tomorrow of this.A word of caution: use the remote on your own hand, back of the hand as the palm is sensitive, to get an idea of the levels. I didn't feel anything until level 20, and at 25 I felt a decent shock, so I won't do that anymore. It seemed that once the dog tuned in the remote, 10 was all that was needed, on day 1! If you aren't getting the response that you want, make sure that your dog understand that she's supposed to do something (plenty of video and tutorials online) and that the collar is tight enough (but not too tight). Avoid high levels to start with as I assume that they would be painful and not necessary if you make your dog understand the device, based on level 25 that I shocked myself with!To be continued.December 22: I am so impressed with Dogtra that I ordered a 1900 one also. I think k they're fantastic for training your dogs, specially powerful breeds and bigger dogs. The motivation for 1900 version was being water proof and longer range.Unfortunately, my 208C started ti be inconsistent. The levels don't work accurately anymore. Sometimes level 8 works great but other times even level 25 doesn't give any stimulation to the dog nor my skin, then randomly works another time. This is dangerous and unreliable. I've tried cleaning/ wiping the stimulation rods, pulling back hair and different tightness.Based on other reviews, I assume this is a faulty unit and exception. Based on the difference that it made for traning dogs, the built quality and getting solid recalls, I leave 5 star for the item. I shall review the 1900 unit after a month or more of use.

The ease of control
My experience has been great. It has a good range and I don’t have to use a high stimulation setting to control my dog. Err
