A great ending!!
Monster Planet is the last book in the Monster Island trilogy. Twelve years have passed since the dead started walking the earth. Ayaan has kept her promise to Dekalb and took care of Sarah. Sarah is now a strong grown warrior. When Ayaan gets kidnapped by a strong and dangerous lich Sarah sails from Africa to the United States to rescue her. When Sarah gets to New York she's in for one hell of a shock. 4 stars!!

Characters loose their luster over 3 books but still entertaining
Monster Island was great pulp. Monster Nation introduced new characters and was a fairly decent read as well. But by the 3rd installment of this zombie trilogy everything that author David Wellington had built up sort of falls short of expectations.I think that this book would have benefited from another editor. The great characters in book 1 were ignored in book 2 which is OK but now they are back in book 3. Its sort of like a greatest hits record without the continuity of the original recorded album.I'm not criticizing the mummies or the supernatural powers that some of the zombies have but I think they could have been held to a minimum like the 1st 2 books were able to do. Further, the author doesn't really explain how the other powered zombies are created. Originally, these smart zombies were accidents and I liked that. It just gets a bit played when they start turning up all over.Further, the old characters have all been re-written for the purpose of book 3 and there isn't much explaination as to why their stories changed other than it suited the 3rd book. I'm not so much a fan of that. Like I said its sort of like remixing an already great song for a greatest hits record. Not necessary. The killer for me is the ending which didn't do it for me. Kick some butt or die but don't just fade away. All that said, I think its worth a read if you've already invested in the previous stories. I do think the 1st half of the book is much better than the 2nd half. I really liked the angle that Africa was the one place where humans were surviving and I thought Wellington could have exploited that a bit more at least for centemporary political purposes.

A good end to a good series of books.
I started this series by happenstance. Which is to say I was going to try another book from David Wellington, but wanted to start with his first book written, which is Monster Island Monster Island: A Zombie Novel . I had never read a zombie novel before, but was immediatley grabbed by the story. After devouring this book I had to have the second Monster Nation Monster Nation: A Zombie Novel . At the start I was put off by the time line presented in the book, but was again drawn in and read through as quickly as possible. When I picked up this book to finish the trilogy it was with anticipation of finding out how he was going to wrap it all up and disappointment that it was going to be over. This book had all the roller coaster emotions that had drawn me into the other books and had the finale that I was not really expecting. I never would have picked up a "zombie novel" if not for my strict self order of going from first to last, but I am glad I did. I think his style of writing is paced right to keep people involed and the chapter size makes you believe that you are making a great deal of progress as you read. You will not be disappointed with this book, but since it is the third in the trilogy start with Monster Island.

A solid finish to a solid series
I can't say that I lost any sleep to read this book, but that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy Wellington's monster planet. While it drifted still further from the standard zombie fare that inspired it, Dead Planet was very entertaining and inventive. If you liked the previous entries in the series you'll like this book. It ties the preceding books together very well, and provides a satisfying finale. So, why not five stars? While I enjoyed the book it didn't quite have that 'magic' that lifts a book from being good to being a classic. That said - there's really nothing to complain about here.

A Great Book - A Great Conclusion To The Trilogy
This was 3 of 3 in the trilogy - Monster Island, Monster Nation and Monster Planet. I read all 3 - Island was AWESOME - 5 stars for sure!! But Nation and Planet got a little too squishy for me - mind reading Zombies, etc. They were still very well written and the author was seamless in his story telling. The characters too were consistent and continuous which provided an excellent foundation for the entire trilogy. BOTTOM LINE - read all three...in order...and you won't be disappointed.

Strange But Interesting.
This series was well, very bizarre. VERY BIZARRE!!! It will take awhile to get in to it, at least it did for me. But I didn't want to put it down either because I did want to see how it would turn out. Although in the end you get a pretty good idea what caused it. You don't really get a good idea of how it started. For instance how the female character became bitten, etc. I won't say don't buy it...just pace yourself. lol

ZOMBIE AWESOME!
So just save yourself the trouble and buy all 3 books in this series at the same time. I am totally hooked on you now, Mr. Wellington! What a great take on how, when, where, why, and what could cause this! So funny that the day I was raving about these books, I met someone from the International Disease Control think tank who said "You know, there are things out there even more terrifying than zombies!" So could you make your next book about the hanta virus? Anyone remember Ben? Thank you for an awesome trilogy.

Good book so far
I haven't finished this book yet but it is good so far. I am reading it to finish the Monster trilogy. Overall, the trilogy is OK. It is a little far-fetched or supernatural. i was expecting a standard zombie-type book.

God Awful
I bought this one on the strength of the last one I read, Monster Island, which had some good parts in it but on the whole was flawed. On reading the first few chapters I stopped. Three seperate stories all heading together wouldn't be so bad if the zombies were just that. but no, invisible and telepathic zombies with dark energy and so on, nah I don't think so.

Good trilogy
Good trilogy, this one finishes it off nicely and brings in some of the things subtly mentioned in the first two books.

Not as good as the first two books
This is the third and (hopefully) final installment of the 'Monster' series, following on from 'Monster Island' and 'Monster Nation'. The first book was great - it had all the things that a good zombie story should have and a couple of twists. The second book was hardly related to the first, but also enjoyable in its own right. I assumed that the third book would bring the two together and form some sort of conclusion. In a way it does, but to be honest you could skip 'Monster Nation' and not miss much of the story. This third book contains too many deviations from the typical zombie novel in my opinion. I had trouble figuring out who was doing what and why and there were far too many 'super zombies' for my liking. Towards the end I didn't really care who lived or died, and it didn't seem to make much of a difference to the characters either.I guess if you're a zombie-holic then you could do worse than read this book, but you're definitely better off starting and the beginning of the trilogy (and maybe stopping after the second part).

Best out of the trilogy
I won't bother explaining the plot as others have done that better then i ever could. I bought this in book form and then re-bought it on the kindle.Wellingtons zombie book has what others lack, originality

Another good effort
I have to agree this wasnt as good as the first 2 books but it was still well worth reading. Wellington does give the Zombie genre a twist and when your talking about the dead taking over the civilised world you cant really question the credibility of the more able zombies.I think what he did was a bit odd but at least original. As was the plot which is probably the most original since Romero. Very little has been copied about how the zombie infestation began.
