Queen Adreena - Taxidermy
this is a stunning debut by an exceptional band [some of you may know that q.a. is really a reunion of Daisy Chainsaw, but there was a hiatus of 8 years]. the album is full of thought provoking material which runs the gamut from heavy rock to a modern, new-age hymm and includes the best version of the traditional murder ballad, Pretty Polly, that i have ever heard. Taxidermy defies any limits that you think should apply to a rock band. warning - this is art-rock and not meant for anyone who is satisfied with mainstream pop. Crispin Gray is one of the most original guitarists and Katie-Jane Garside is one of most whimsical singers to ever come out of the intimidatingly creative British scene. together, they have co-written a body of songs which stand up against anything ever produced in their country.

Love this album. Pure art and unique beauty.
Queen Adreena is a unique artist with a beautiful unique sound that not everyone is going to like. Her music is on the darker side, very haunting and rich with so many different layers. Her voice can go from frantic screams to the softest of whispers to a twisted kind of sweetness and pretty much everything in between. Some songs are softer and more melodic but most are a loud frenzy of drums, guitar, bass and her screaming over it all. It's an impressive album not like anything else I've heard. I've had this for 7+ years and I still love it and listen to it and all of her cd's and I never have to skip past any songs, there all amazing. Also, she has another band called Ruby Throat that's similar except it's a lot softer, slower, more melodic and singing rather than screaming. I HIghly recommend both, but I would listen to some clips/songs first as its not for everyone and probably not for most. Personally, I feel extremely lucky to have found such a complex, dreamy, haunting (though tough to describe) emotionally rich artist. Pure art.

metal with a creative edge
Haunting, brooding, with a strange out of control sound that sounds like it's matured from their previous incarnate (Daisy Chainsaw). Though you could never accuse Daisy Chainsaw of not having a unique and interesting creativity, Queen Adreena shows a sense of maturity that shows in the songs that only time could bring. The album opens up with "Cold Fish," an ideal opener with crashing guitars and breathy, 'light-as-fairy-dust' vocals. Though many of the songs follow this similar pattern, their sound branch out into different territory. "Soda Dreamer" wanders into a sort of reverse-psychadelia, even introducing chimes into the song. "Pretty Polly" is more calm and serene, delving into the fears of lifelong commitment ("I'm afraid you're digging a grave for the best part of my life"). "I Adore You" is slow, exploring the terrain of obsession. "X-ing off the Days" containing riffs normal metal bands could only hope for. Healthy carthasis for frustrated listeners? Maybe, but the singer asks in the album "Are the Songs My Disease?" At times, the music is eerie, disquieting, but there are times when the singer's voice draws out hidden beauty from the songs. Simply put, this is an album for the listener who doesn't like metal and hard rock. It's a shame this album isn't available in this country (yet).

Mesmerising Royalty
Without being too critical of modern goth rock i can safely say that it is too often unimaginative and lifeless. However not a fan of the genre i cant say how this album would fare in that category but there is a definite dark, gothic side to this album. Scathing, powerful 'big black' -esque riffs are contrasted by frighteningly beautifull melodies. Heavily atmospheric, it sounds like the gloomier sonic youth of old treading paths with the attitude of type o negative. It is worth buying the album just to hear the singers voice as she is one of the best vocalists of the decade. What strikes you first is how emotional and pain striken it is and how she can change between sarcastically sickly sweet angelicness and the occasional scream. The guitars are noisy and the drumming is heavily atmospheric. This is a gorgeous album, but frightening. Dont expect thoughts of love happiness and serenity after listening to Taxidermy.

You MUST buy the import version!
In a time of loathsome redneck metal bands, Queen Adreena are one of the only newer bands still producing important music. This is their first full-length which is a bit more melodic than the follow-up 'Drink Me'. This album can't dissapoint with Crispin Gray and Katie Jane Garside formerly of Daisy Chainsaw who bring their trademark sound and beautiful lyrics. This release not only contains two memorable Katie Jane solo tunes but also an enhanced section with short films as brilliant as the music it accompanies.

Taxidermy.
Not Afraid of anything, Ms. Katie Jane Garside will show you her feeling and is not afraid to let you in on her secrets. Katie Jane has an amazing angelic vocie, but when it comes down to it she's not afraid to let it all out. This amazing band from the UK will keep you wondering. So many questions, such a great band. Katie Jane is a girl that knows what she wants to stand for and stands for it. this album is strong in what they believe and every spirtiual, hard and very deep. this album is for everyone that has deep feelings and everyone that wants to stand for something.

Brilliant, just brilliant.
Wow! This is stunning. I played it non-stop on a four hour drive and didn’t want to put anything else on, except her other albums when I got home.
