The Further Adventures of Red Sonja Vol. 1 (FURTHER ADVENTURES RED SONJA TP)

I heard Frank Thorne was absolutely heartbroken over these reprints and it is easy to see why. The quality of these reprints is just really unfortunate. As far as I can tell, it looks like they scanned printed copies of the original comics, digitally removed the colors, and then did a heavy handed color reconstruction on top of that. The result is really terrible quality reproduction of the line work that is very rough and splotches looking. You can also see some of the halftone color dots (now black) that they couldn't fully disappear.On top of that, the coloring takes a "modern" approach and attempts to model with very heavy handed shading, which doesn't really suit the art style (which anticipated a flat color process), and coupled with the poor line art scans, results in a garbled mess. I dont fault the colorist too much, though, because it is just a really poor situation.I don’t really understand why Dynamite chose to do it this way, when they've shown that they had access to great scans of the original artwork on the Red Sonja artist editions (I own all three, they're fantastic). Seems like they could have used those instead and came out with some great editions. Maybe there is a legal constraint?I hope someday they redo these right. If they do I will buy them. Not holding my breath, though. They just released a red sonja #1 facimily comic, and its this same stuff. Right now I guess this is your best bet for reading these stories.

Surprisingly for me, this set featuring the 'black and white' magazines from the 70s and coloured has turned out to be quite good. I wish the artwork was still in B&W and a proper omnibus of all those wonderful Red Sonja stories could be released but this is still a pretty amazingly good work (the previous volumes of the colour comics were terribly coloured and mostly murky and a mess - sold my copies and just bought the originals again). I have many of the RS B&W in their originals but it is always great to get them in a collected set. The stories are all generally superb though perhaps people may enjoy the more recent RS work)

This books collected a lot of the black and white Red Sonja stories from Marvels original Savage Sword of Conan. They have been coloured for the first time, and look like modern stories.Hopefully there will be a volume II.

The Further Adventure's of Red Sonja give us more stories from her original days as a Marvel heroine in Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan.Roy does a great job at building a character and story and these tales have aged really well!!! Highly recommended if you want tales of Sonja before her modern-- and awesome-- Dynamite incantation.

Als Ergänzung meiner Sammlung gekauft, ältere Kurzgeschichten, eine längere Story, teils wg. der doch kleinen Schrift etwas mühsam zu lesen, sonst gut überarbeitet, aber die neuere Sonja gefällt mir einfach besser, der Gesichtsausdruck bei den älteren Geschichten ist doch manchmal ein wenig sehr seltsam getroffen.

The item came really fast, in perfect condition.Everything is as described.The story and art are perfect - from first page to the last one, 100% entertainment.I think the price is fair for hard-to-find title.
