Exciting fairy tale!!!
This book reminded me of the stories my mother used to narrate to lull me to sleep. Its the story of prince and princesses. A story of love set in the dystopian time where the king rules the world. I found this book to be really sweet and a great fluffy read.Since this is the first book in the series we get to know about all the main characters that will lay the character basics ahead in the next book of the series "SELECTION".The story opens up to the various divisions in the society and the various hardships that the people of the lower divisions have to face. The royal family is the "ONE" and obviously placed in the highest rank. The description of the world was not that greart to be honest. And it did not feel anything dystopian. There was not a proper world building in this book. Our main character America Singer is in the 5th division where their main job is surrounded around music, art and culture. America is a singer. She goes along with her mother to various occations where they perform. She has other siblings as well. Some are married and some are younger than her. She has seen a life of struggle. She never expected anything great to happen in her life. She is also seen to love a man who is a rank lower than her which proves that the divisions of the society do not bother her. But i felt that her character was too good to be true. She was all good and no bad. She is the perfect princess material which i felt a little made up and not all that natural. The prince is another adorable character in this book but again he is too perfect. I felt he was kind of stiff and is unrealistic. He is calm and understanding. He respects women and takes care of all of them.He is really manly and hansome and responsible. But he dosent know how to romantically approach a women. He is clumsy in that field. But he likes America. He has found a friend in her.He is naughty at times and understanding at other. He is ready to help out but when time demands him to be stern, he becomes soo.America has formed an interesting relation with the prince where i cant say if it is love or friendship. She is confused herself. She is guilt concious of all her actions. The palace life is not the one for her- This is what she thinks. She is mentally exahusted from the fight between her former love,Aspen and the prince. At the same time she is really seen to miss her family. What i found irritating was America was so confused about everything. She was confused about Aspen and the prince and the whole competition. And Aspen.. I JUST WANTED TO KICK HIM. He was really really irritating.I just could not stand the course of actions he took. I mean who encourages his girlfriend to be in a competition to be someone else's bride. And even later his actions were too much to take in for me. But despite all that i really like this book. Its a perfect fluffy read if you want to just de-stress yourself.Beautiful character and beautiful plots are laid out for the future ahead. A too perfect fairy tale with a too perfect love story and a too perfect kingdom with practically no war except a little infiltration for something mysterious which i hope will be disclosed in the later book of these series.

Its cute …but maybe a little too cute
First of all I am going to apologize to all the fans of the series for what I am about to say in my review. I know you must have loved it but forgive me for I am not that impressed with the book.I know the series has gone on to become famous and have lots of fan following but somehow I am failing to see the reason behind all the hype about this book. I guess Selection is what you get if you pageant-ize hunger games.Katniss Everdeen + beauty pageant = Selection (my math teacher would be so proud today)While hunger games was a little more rough, exhilarating and filled with adrenaline rush, selection is powdered with rouge and wrapped in delicate gowns, shimmering so much that you need protective glasses to prevent from going blind but then all this is not to say that the book was bad.Selection, for me was a wrap up of everything I have read so far in young adult sans any paranormal elements. How? Well let me try without giving away any spoilersHeroin: I am a very Hard working girl, I am also very benevolent, fighter for the rights of the suppressed, I don’t go for make up, I will not drool over a boy that millions swoon over, I am good to the poor, I am very grounded yet will insult and be rude to “that guy” ..just because I can, I am the prettiest of all but I will not admit that, clear concise (well according to her but not necessarily to the readers ) and I can go on and on…. So you basically get the point. It is your usual goody two shoes, Barbie reincarnation.Hero: gentle, well mannered, kind, attractive enough to make women faint at his mere site, even in the middle of the night will woke up looking like a model. Will fall for the only girl who does not drool for him and insults him. Will agree to do anything for the honor of the girl, absolutely adores kids and his mother, will standby to catch in case the girl trips or faints (after all when will those muscles come to use)Now add in another angle: A triangle. The other guy whose main purpose is to fight for the girl till he dies or the author decides… “That’s it !!!… Off with his head”So you see my problem here. Selection is a combination of everything read and heard so far. You might argue that the plot line is different..but then is it ? is it that different?I am not boasting when I say that right from the beginning I knew what was going to happen in fact not having read the second book yet, I still can predict what is going to happen. I fell that even the word predictable is shouting predictable at this book. But apart from that Selection is a smooth ride and pretty quick read too. It is simple and fast and has good narration.Though selection is not a bad book, the problem I had with it was only that it was too cliché, predictable from the very first page. Everything seemed to be your typical plotline and character. Though in theory everything is proportional and good, the books does not bring something new to the genre but apart from that if you are a lover of the dystopian, young adult genre then this is a good book with fluid narration and fast pace. I think the word simple defines it much more. No complications in the characters or the plot. Just a smooth read like a good bedtime story

Get out of your reading slump with this funny feel good quick read.
To start off with, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I absolutely love the royal and futuristic world it is set in. The love triangle adds complexity to the characters and it's fun and exciting. This book made me giggle at times, and twitch in anticipation at others. The writing is pretty simple and easy to read.I desperately want to read the rest of the books from this series to see what happens to the characters and who ends up with whom.

ADDICTIVE
America is the classic female heroine who falls in love with a boy. Except Kiera Cass just makes this age-old cliché a thousand times better! Even though I knew exactly what the ending was going to be as soon as I read the first chapter, I was addicted and read all 5 books in a week. I definitely ate up the romance. A good solid read!
