Haunted: A Novel

self sabotaging satire
Man I loved this book. This is one of the more powerful novels I’ve read. Palahniuk has truly become one of my favorite authors. The amount of gore and the level of crazed that these characters reach is unlike anything else I’ve ever written. I found myself wanting to read this constantly and it provides a great mental escape. The funny thing is I can easily see this becoming a comfort read of mine. I already want to reread it and dissect it completely with annotations. As always please look up trigger warnings before reading

Wow! Another fav
The thing I enjoy most about Palanhiuk is that he sucks you into such a dark abyss before you realize it. Stories start out innocuously enough and slowly and surely they get dark, until you find yourself saying, what did i just read?! I couldn't put this down and was not disappointed. I don't like reviews that give the story away - I enjoy experiencing a story with no expectations, so I won't give the plot away, enough people will do that. Just know this will not disappoint and I highly recommend. It is well written and just dark enough.

Wow
This book is not like anything I've read before. The premise is astounding, the characters are relatable to everyone's dark side and the stories are exceptional. This book makes Fight Club look like a children's story. Highly recommend

leaning a little both ways....
So after reading the online reviews for this novel, I am torn. I had planned to criticize this book as Chucks worst. I have read everything he has written (with the execption of the Fugives and Refugees: A Walk in Portland, Oregon) and I have been satisfied with most. A few have been hard to start, but once I got into them, they were great. His latest work, however, is another story. After Guts, I became truly dissapointed, but continued to read for hope of another great story. I expected some very scary stories, or atleast something as shockingly disturbing as Guts, but I didn't. I re-read the novel and discovered, that while it may not be as shocking as I expected, it turned out to be an "o.k" novel. The re-reading of the book, helped me discover some aspects which I totaly missed. I realized that while this may be an unlikely scenario, it is very haunting. These people all seemed to be normal starting off, but as each person opened up, we can see how haunting there past was. Each person so disturbed by there past, they believe turning themselves into a story and to be viewed by everyone with sympathy, will turn there lives around. Each person becomes so obsessed by becoming sadder than the others they lose sight of there life. They no longer are living for themselves, but they are dying to create a story. A story more painful than anyother EVER told. The problem with Chucks latest work is that there is no character connection. Besides the narrator, who I am tricked into feeling that I know, but I believe is really the collective soul of the groups story, I do not feel like I know anyone. I feel like I am watching a movie of a movie of a movie. I am not sure whether or not that is what Chuck wanted or not, but still thats how I feel. Do not read this if it is your first Chuck novel, read Fight Club, read Survivor, read Choke, but DO NOT read this first. Buy it, so you will read it later, then buy one of the other books, I promise you, you will not regret it.

I want a shelf on my book case dedicated to the physical copies of this man's work.
I started looking further into Chuck's work and he doesn't disappoint. His worlds he creates are beautiful and disturbing and raw and melancholy. Imagine a traumatizing moment or a mangled victim of the plot, portrayed as a glorious statue of ivory commissioned by The Vatican. That's how I see his satirical writing.

Brace yourself for a great, but thought provoking and disturbingly stimulating read. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
I have very eclectic tastes in reading. My ideology: no book is bad. Some unusual books, like this one, end up being awesome. This book caters to those who appreciate twisted thinking. It is also takes a deeply insightful yet intellectual look into the social, emotional and psychological aspects that comprise our humaness (for lack of a better term) without apology for being brutally open, honest and blunt about those things that we may not like about being imperfect in our humanity, but that are albeit truisms. You will see yourself in some way, shape or fashion in one or some of these characters.Admittedly, the book from the first chapter made my stomach turn and I almost gave it up. I forced myself to continue. I found that a well woven story developed and I could not put it down. Hmm how would I describe it Alfred Hitchcock meets Stephen King meets Dr. Freud meets Dr. Jung...... and on and on. You get the picture. I do caution that if you don't like to be disturbed nor made to think - - really think about some not-so-nice human behavior don't read this. It aint roses and sunshine, but it will make you really think. Enter at your own risk and enjoy

Disgusting, I loved it
very happy with its brutally real and uncomfortable short stories as well as the plot throughout. if you can get through it without feeling sick… you’ve got Guts..

Kind of gross, but engaging
Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted book is about 23 wannabe authors who get locked away to help them find their 'muse'. The longer they stay there, the more we find out about these authors and the stories they tell (the book alternatives between what's going on with the authors and the stories they tell as it becomes apparent they might not get out and go slowly insane as a consequence). The book starts off with a bang (I defy anyone to forget the first story that one of the author tells). Some of the author's stories were less enjoyable/fun/interesting, but the book as a whole was fun
