Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD) [3D Blu-ray]

I bought this specifically for the 3D version.
This movie is what it is, with a lot of skin. I bought it for my 3D collection and I am very pleased with the 3D. Most of the scenes look like CGI, but the depth is good.

A Must have 3D blu ray
Sin City: A Dame to Kill for is a strong follow-up to Sin City the down fall of this film was the time gap between the original film and the follow upI see this film at the theater in 3-D and really enjoyed it . It's a film this different and unique and was made for 3-DThe Story is mostly a epilogue of the original film and going into it most people won't add this upThe Cast:Jessica Alba returns as Nancy (In my honest opinion this is Alba's best performance) she proves she can act when given the right scriptMickey Rourke returns as Marv (Rourke once again gives a great performance)Jaime King returns as Goldie / WendyPowers Boothe returns as Senator Roark (This is Boothe's film he is flat out scary and caries a lot of the film) he's performance alone makes this film a must see!Rosario Dawson returns as Gail (we don't get enough Rosario in this film) great seeing Gail thoughBruce Willis returns as Hartigan (Bruce Willis stinks i grew up with his films but, dear God he is sleep walking through this film he only returned to get a pay check it's sad everyone else is really good except Willis and I'm sure the ego manic got pay better then Powers Boothe!New Actors to Sin City:Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Johnny (great job all around it's cool to see a fleshed out version of Johnny)Josh Brolin as Dwight (his story takes place before he is introduced as Clive Owen in the original film you are given the reason why he changed his face) Brolin does a great job the only problem with the film and Dwight in this film is when you see him with the new faceI wish they were able to use Clive Owen's face to do this scene it would've worked much betterEva Green as Ava (This was originally meant to go to Angelina Jolie if she stuck with this film it would've been watered down the Mommy Angelina wouldn't have no any nudity or gone 100% in to deliverer what we got from EvaEva Green is flat out amazing she is the other person that does a lot of the hard lifting!Replacements: Dennis Haysbert as Manute (replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan does a good job he's doing the best he can)Jamie Chung as Miho (replacing the pregnant Devon Aoki I think Jamie is a much better version of Miho this is the version from the graphic albums)you get interesting cameos byRay Liotta, Christopher Meloni, Juno Temple, Christopher Lloyd, Lady GagaWith Brittany Murphy (RIP) passing away Shellie was completely removed.....The home video 3-D version is close to perfect the 3-D looks great on par with the Theatrical 3-DGetting a film with the colors mixed with the 3-D was brilliant a film with this much style needs to be in 3-D it works better then so many films that don't...The biggest problem with the 3D Blu ray is lack of any real extrasThe extras stinksThis is a must have for anyone with a 3-D set up. This film is best watched in 3-D mostly cause the look and 3D complement each other so wheelIt's visually stunning and jaw dropping................ a must have 9.7/10

I saw the original and loved everything about it
So. Here goes. I saw the original Sin City, not knowing what to expect- and wasn't any original fan of Frank Miller, the Sin City franchise etc. All I knew is that it reminded me vaguely of a video game series I had played in the past- Max Payne. I won't go into that movie- that's for a different deal. I saw the original and loved everything about it. The casting, the story, the cinematic artistry and it's gritty noir.Along came the second movie and my friends didn't want to see it- actually I think it was mainly due to my best friend's gf who is against it- so we didn't go. Anyways, few months roll by, it becomes available to rent on Amazon so I do, and I'm glad I rented before buying. I will definitely NOT be buying A Dame to Kill For.It took 20-30 minutes of watching the movie to realize a few things. One- like all others said, this movie is a prequel and sequel at the same time at different parts of the movie as it relates to the comic lineage, or so I've read. The other is there were 2 different casting changes, one out of necessity because Michael Clarke Duncan passed away, and as another review stated- "was replaced by the all state guy" which yes, he did a decent job at mimicking the role MCD played to perfection, but I kept waiting for insurance deals as well. The second, which really had no excuse, was they recast Clive Owen with Josh Brolin. It took a long time to understand that Dwight was one and the same as in the original. I felt completely robbed as after various research showed, it was basically the timing of the filming and how they couldn't have had at least a cameo in this- well, it robbed us. It was basically like when they released a second Punisher movie without Thomas Jane who played that role to perfection- put in the training and research to do play the role legitly, well- they up and did a sequel of sorts, the story line I read he didn't like, and so they cast some other guy. Wasn't even worth my time to watch and had I realized they swapped out Owen on this, instead of thinking of this as a totally different movie and not a sequel as it apparently was, well- I wouldn't have bothered to watch this. The story line was alright, the movie was alright, but I'm one of those people who tends to fall in favor of original castings except when something drastic happens like the passing of an actor or jealousy of a supporting actor (:cough: Ironman :cough:). That said- if you're not a Clive Owen fan and you do like Josh Brolin (I'm not a Brolin fan yet, as I haven't really seen him in anything of interest to me), then go check it out! Otherwise be forewarned.

God blessed Eva Green
This movie gets three stars for one reason and one reason only: Eva Green. If this sequel to Sin City focused entirely on just the Eva Green story (A Dame to Kill For), it would have been for the better. That story itself is still less than stellar, but giving it room to breathe could have made a huge difference. And by God, Eva Green is impossible to take your eyes off of whether she's naked or not. She is perhaps the most compelling, watchable actress of her generation and it's not just because she's astoundingly beautiful. Eva as Ava here is perhaps the best casting choice since she starred as Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. And she's also naked. A lot. And that nudity is actually central to the plot of the story and other characters' motivations. So gawk all you want, that's the whole point. The rest of the movie and its co-director Frank Miller, on the other hand, can go kick rocks.

Roark must die
The long awaited sequel to Sin City [DVD] [2005 ] finally arrives. This, like that, is an adaptation of stories from a series of graphic novels which tell rather extreme film noir style tales.Although this one adapts two stories from the novels directly: 'Just Another Saturday Night', from the collection 'Booze, broads, and bullets', plus the full length story 'A Dame to Kill For,' there are two other stories in this film: 'The Long, Bad Night' and 'Nancy's last dance', which were written especially for the film, and haven't appeared on the printed page.A familiarity with the first film will help. But you can get into this if you've not read the comics. The first two stories are, as with the first film, utterly faithful, and reproduce all the panels of the comic onto the big screen. The timeline is again not entirely linear. A lot of the events here take place before those in the first film. Although Nancy's last dance doesn't. You just have to go with and not worry about the continuity.A lot of the original actors return. Although not all are there. Which results in some recasting. Something else that's not something worth worrying about. Although Josh Brolin plays Dwight rather than Clive Owen because of the nature of the story and it taking place before the first film.Just another Saturday Night is a short tale about an average evening for Marv. Being short means it's just the right length to have the impact it needs to.A Dame to Kill For is a full length tale of Dwight getting caught up with a femme fatale [Eva Green].The Long, Bad Night sees a gambler [Joseph Gordon Levitt] fall foul of Senator Roark and have to deal with what happens next.Nancy's last dance sees Nancy deal with what happened in the first film. And a desire for revenge. The Long, bad night is in two halves. The first coming before all of a Dame to Kill For. The second right after. These are all good stories. Eva Green is superb. Lady Gaga is quite good in a small cameo. And Bruce Willis actually doesn't phone it in for once.But...This just doesn't quite have the impact of the first film. If we hadn't had to wait nine years, it might have. But since it's been so long, and since it's not really doing anything different, it just lacks a certain spark. Also, the last two stories do end a bit abruptly, because they try to have endings with impacts that will sink in.It's still quite watchable, and work a look if you liked the first film. But ultimately, whilst it was nice to get back to Sin City again, it just wasn't quite as memorable a trip as the first one.The disc has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English.Subtitles: English. It's also English audio captioned. It begins with several trailers, which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. There's a very good main menu which is worth looking at for a while.Do note that scene selection only takes you to the start of each story - or section of it - so you might have to fast forward if you want to get to a certain bit.Extras are:Eva Green is the Dame to Kill for.Jessica Alba is Nancy.Josh Brolin is Dwight.Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Johnny. These are four short [two to three minutes each] character profiles, with clips from the film and the actor plus others talking about their character. They're all quite good if brief.Make up effects of Sin City.Stunts of Sin City.Run for six and five minutes each. Both focus on the subject of their title. And are also both interesting if brief. Disappointing for fans of the book
I loved the first Sin City - it was so faithful to the books I couldn't believe it and I waited eagerly for this movie for years. A Dame To Kill For is my favourite book of the series along with Hard Goodbye so was very excited to see it on the big screed. There are several mini stories, involving Marv, Nancy and Roark from the first movie which are good and only one Marv is in the books so it was nice to see something new and they were well acted and in the spirit of the first film. The disappointment was with the main story, Dame To Kill For. Josh Brolin takes over from Clive Owen to play Dwight. If you've read the books you'll know he looks like Clive Owen after surgery so people think he's dead so having Josh play Dwight at the start was kind of explainable although finding an actor that was a bit more built like Clive would have made more sense. He's also not a bad actor, he's got the tough guy thing down, but he wasn't Dwight and it ruined the main story because I wasn't believing him as the character. It got worse after the surgery. They used obvious prosthetics to try and make josh look more like Clive and it was so stupid and didn't really work.Maybe it's because Dame is my favourite story, with Dwight my favourite character, that I was so harsh while watching this film. If you haven't read the books but loved the first movie you'll probably love this movie too. It has a lot going for it including the unique look that made the first so awesome. If you have read the books and are a fan of them I would suggest missing this movie and sticking to the excellent first.

“It’s just another Saturday night.” [Marv]
This 2014 neo noir film follows directly on from the first Sin City. Marv (Mickey Rourke) regains consciousness on the highway overlooking The Projects and has no memory of how he got there. Surrounded by several dead young men and a crashed police car, he tries to retrace his steps, realising that since it's Saturday, he must have watched Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) dance at Kadie's Saloon, but soon lands in even more trouble and your only 2 minutes in.With a clear and loud audio, this really sounds great from the start. Shown in mainly black and white with some highlights in colour, the voiceover narration maintains the comic book feel. It’s really two minor stories woven around a central theme, but even as a follow-on, you don’t really need to have seen the first, but it does help explain past relationships. The single disc opens to 4 trailers before offering play, scene selection, extras [characters, make up, stunts] and set up [Eng HoH subtitles on/off, audio description on/off]. Rated 18 this does have nudity but due to the clever use of shadows, smoke etc much remains obscured. The violence is brutal in true comic book style and there is some profanity, but not as much as you might expect. With a fast pace and riveting storyline, this is ***** entertainment.

Almost Worth the 10 Year Wait!
The film got a lot of stick but I enjoyed it and thought it was mostly an improvement on the first film, beyond the first films originality which couldn't really be matched or beaten here as it's a sequel of that film. I think going too far off track to try and achieve the same originality would have resulted in a less faithful telling of the story, which probably would have been more disappointing. So yes, it's more of the same in some respects, but I think it had to be.The often black-and-white film-noir style (which to some comes across as over-styled) may put some off but I love the style of the film - it's beautiful to watch visually, including the hyper violence and in-your-face blood splatters draping over the hard cut frames. This is another great adult comic-conversion that sticks to the source material far more strictly than it's less adult counterparts and if that's what you're looking for and expecting then you won't be disappointed, especially if you enjoyed the first film. The story feels more tied together than the first one, helped by the continuity of referencing earlier events and using many of the same characters, and makes for a smoother/easier watch even though we do go back-and-forward in time to piece everything together. The film is pretty much what you expect - the dealings of previous (and new) characters in a corrupt, brutal city where dog-eats-dog and everyone has the potential to double-cross you. The three main story-lines work well separately and are tied together nicely so the film never feels like you're being shot from one film/arc to another and I think every member of the cast gives a great performance that this kind of film needs. Maybe not quite good enough to say it was worth waiting nearly 10 years for but I hope they put another one out in the future.

Okay
While this is a great visual experience it does struggle not to come across as a bit desperate. The storylines are confused and not particularly interesting. The characters are at times a bit of a joke or even parodies of their former selves - Marv keeps making jokes at his own expense. Jessica Alba is a complete mess throughout. Ray Liotta gives a desperate and awful performance. Bruce Willis may as well have not even been there. The film also suffers from a distinct lack of Clive Owen as Dwight. They instead opt for a kind of mini Marv to play the part. Dwight is supposed to be clever, not reckless. The music is a weak imitation of the original. However, despite its many short comings, this is still an entertaining and stylish movie. Sin City fans will enjoy and get something out of it.
