Jack & Jill (Alex Cross)

Slow and Steady
I am still new to James Patterson, learning his quirks and getting a feel for his writing style. At this stage in my life it takes me awhile to finish a book, falling asleep after a few pages. There's something about Alex Cross that makes me want to finish the book. Jack and Jill was different and thought provoking. It made me want to know more and keep coming back. If you want everything tied up in a neat little bow, this isn't the book for you. I love the dynamic between Alex and Nana, he needs that in his life to keep him grounded.

Good story plot but very wordy!
This book took me a month and a half to read through. I enjoyed the first two books of Alex Cross and was excited to read this one! But it fell short of my expectations. It was really hard to get through. So many words. I felt like the book would never end and I don't ever say that! It was predictable. I didn't really feel like anything was kept til the end to uncoverJack and Jill concept was STRONG! Spoiler: I LOVED that Jack and Jill were the code names for the President and First Lady. SPOILER: I was kind of surprised that the President died. And that Jack killed Jill.Again, strong plot. I wanted to love this book. It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat.

"3rds" are definitely the charm! "Jack & Jill" takes the series to a new level!
For a third installment, this is actually really good. It's not as good as "Kiss Girls", but I surprisingly think it is a little better than "Along Came A Spider". For a sequel it delivers well on its promise.I really love the two main villains in this novel, Jack and Jill. I also like the weird romance between the two that is thrown in from time to time, it just fits the description of them and also fits just how crazy they are. I don't know why, but I kinda route for these two for some reason. I know that I don't really want to, but Patterson does a good job in putting the right attention on them to make me want to. Alex Cross himself feels like he is moving up in the series. He feels more experienced than the other two novels and more alert. Also, his kids are so adorable and cute to watch (or read about). The novel itself takes things to a whole new level and allow a new feeling that stays true to the first two novels. But then there are some problems that I do have with this novel. There are way to many sub-plots going on at once, one of which is about a child-murderer going on in Alex's neighborhood and it doesn't really fit the story. It actually feels like a completely different story. And as always, Alex gets a new love interest named Christine Johnson. We all know the problem, "it feels a little forced", just like with Jezzie from "Along Came A Spider". While I do like Christine I just can't help but feel that the romance could have been done a little better. But the one thing that I don't like is the ending. I won't spoil anything, but the ending leaves out a mystery that is never solved. In the end, "Jack & Jill" is a good third installment to the series and I think it holds up well on its own. It offers something new and it continues the story to new levels. I say that "Jack & Jill" deserves the attention of all Alex Cross fans.

Great!
What can I say?? Patterson is an excellent writer. This was a very good story and so much in the story hits close to today's issues and problems. I recommend reading the whole Cross series.

Great thriller with flaws ... still 4 stars!
This was my first Alex Cross novel, although I saw the two movies years ago. So long ago they don't color my knowledge at all. Having finished one, it was great, and I will be reading more. There are some very good points, and a couple of flaws. I've tried not to spoil much. The great: Patterson has created a strong, richly realized main character. You like him. You identify with him. You want him to succeed. He has real problems, emotions, flaws, and strengths. The plot is a fun twisty tale of parallel killers. Jack and Jill are political assassins, and for almost the whole ride, they are wonderful.... always one step ahead. The child killer storyline brings danger close for readers. The pacing is brilliant, the writing solid. You will want to keep reading faster.Needs improvement: The motivations of the baddies needed a little more work. I don't need to fully understand everything about a villain, but with the child killer, while the reader will easily follow the killer's motives from death #3 on, what exactly led to the first death is an important character development step. Let alone the second death. I know the author was trying to build suspense about the killer's identity, but even at a later time, the author could reveal what made the person a killer initially. As for Jack and Jill's motives...I'm a little more forgiving, because politics creates enemies. What I didn't like is the final surprise twist, which felt unnatural to the story. To me, it seemed the author just wanted to have the final baddie be someone you don't expect, going for surprise, rather than have a SINGLE clue suggesting this person. imagine seeing the Sixth Sense, but the movie never tells you that Bruce Willis was shot earlier. That kind of .... wha? reaction.Even for these flaws, I truly enjoyed the book, and will go shopping for more.

Jack & Jill
Not bad. I was given a James Patterson book (Target) by my wife for Christmas some four years ago but had never read it. Looking for another author to follow I found this book in the bookcase and as it had cost Β£20 (hard back) I thought I had better read it. It was very good and I enjoyed it very much only to discover that there were another 26 about the same guy (Alex Cross) hence I downloaded this book. Perhaps Patterson had not really got into the character at this stage as I found Alex Cross to be a bit wanting in Jack and Jill. He fluffs around a lot as though his concentration is not there 100%. Also I found the story disjointed but overall not too bad. But who am I to be picky, Iβm just your average reader. So Iβm off to download the next in the series - Book 3 to see how Alex Cross progresses!

Enthralling!
Even more exciting than the previous two books in the Alex Cross series this one draws the reader in on more levels than one. This time Cross is stretched almost beyond his limits by the depths of two very different murders happening at the same time and we see him question his own resolve and reasoning. As before the story lines in this book are incredibly complex and they hold the reader in place from start to finish. The characters continue to grow, allowing new faces space to take their own place in the story and plot. This was truly a riveting, if difficult to digest in some places, and I heartily recommend this book to everyone who loves a good thriller/crime/mystery read.

?
Will I like this book ? What if I don't finish it ? What if I don't like it ? Why am I asking myself so many questions ? This book isn't a bad read but what I found irritating was Alex Cross asking himself so many questions, it made him seem less like a big tough cop and more be like an eternal worrier. Perhaps as well not having two cases to deal with. It made it seem as if the author thought the cases weren't interesting enough on their own. This is only the second Alex Cross book I've read and I hated the other one I read (Alex Cross at Xmas I think it was). This one was much better apart from the above and I may read another one but there is a lot of competition out there.

JACK AND JILL
This is the third book in the Alex Cross Series. In the middle of the night a US senator is found murdered in bed. The police turn up and find only one clue a note signed Jack & Jill, which is the start of a set of murders involving high echelons.Elsewhere, two children are brutally murdered, Alex Cross is called in to investigate both cases - are they connected? The twists and turns are sharp and steep and its makes you question the whole concept of power - who has it, how they use it and why!The pages turn themselves and this fast paced novel. The only thing I she say is read and enjoy.

Patterson nails another great book
Jack & Jill gives a creepy insight into the inter-workings of our government. Although, it is a fiction novel, Im sure the plans that took place in this novel have been attempted before.Jack & Jill are two high profile killers in Washington D.C. They kill people that are held high in the public eye and are working their way towards their ultimate goal -- Killing the real Jack & Jill -- Mr. and Mrs. President of the United States. Can Alex Cross catch them before it is too late?At the same time, there are mysterious children murders happening in Cross's neighborhood. With his heart in trying to solve the case, he gets pulled off and put on the Jack and Jill case.He goes undercover with his partner Sampson and a few guys from their department to try to solve the cases themselves. The cases aren't getting much attention because of the high profile murders. This novel is fast paced and keeps you guessing until Patterson is ready to reveal the whole story to you. The Jack and Jill killings were intimate but lacking emotions. The child murders left me quite sad and cringing.
