Embracing the Freak in Myself and My Autistic Son Because We've Got EPIC Stuff To DO!
This book is AWESOME!! Sarah is smart, funny, authentic and open about her journey and it is one I can so relate to. I'm reading her words going, "ME TOO!!" I thought I was the only one that things like that happened to. Good to know I'm in great company!! I can relate to everything either through my own experiences as well as through the experiences I have with my son who is on the autism spectrum and was definitely born to freak!! I wish all parents who have children who are on their own developmental timelines and journeys could read this so they could learn to appreciate the truly unique children that they have. My hunch is that these children already know that they are born to freak, it's just a matter of getting the adults on board with embracing it rather than trying to "normalize" them.Born to FREAK has given me insight and encouragement that embracing the ME that makes ME special is the only way to truly rock it out in this lifetime. It has motivated me to push my edges a bit, really connect with and identify what it is that I want more of in my life. It also illustrates quite beautifully how draining it is when there are things in one's life that are holding them back from living the life they were meant to live. Having the perfect life in appearances only is NOT perfect. It's rather empty and quite exhausting. Having a life filled with what fills you with joy and love and connection with all that you find delicious (or knowing how to make the un-delicious more delicious) is true perfection and what that looks like for each of us is different and how awesome is that? It's been a long time since I've read something that has led me to bookmark so many pages to come back to for inspiration. Sarah and Alice, I thank you so much for helping me to embrace my freak. I look forward to all of the EPIC things that will happen as a result of your writing.Thank you!!Margaret

Wow. Wow. WOW!
I received this book on a Friday and by Saturday had finished it up. It was as if Sarah wrote this book personally to me. I often find myself feeling completely different than every single other human on this planet. With this book, I am astounded by Sarah's wisdom and insight into a group of people just like me! Knowing there are a lot of others out there with this different way of being really validated me. There are so many points in the book where I read with complete amazement at her insight into my being - Jonesing (do it all the time - both types), being shushed (happens to me daily), Zugunruhe (have the worst case possible right now), the need for goading (so real and true!). I feel so much freer and happier to let my FREAK out after reading this book. I found the questions at the end of each chapter really thought provoking and useful - not like the typical type of questions that you skim over quickly and forget- these are really good and I find myself coming back to them. If you have ever felt like you must be completely whacked out and no one "gets you", please, please pick up this book and read it ASAP. You are not alone. You will feel so much better. I am now working daily to let myself be free. Thank you, thank you, Sarah. I plan to pass this on to my husband next - I think it will help him understand me a bit more (maybe?!). P.S. The book is so beautifully laid out and illustrated - it's a visual joy to read.

An original, insightful, funny and authentic look at life
I think there is more than one comedian in the Bamford family! I loved Sarah's first book, What The Walrus Knows . This, her second book, did not disappoint me. She is hilariously funny, salty, and completely serious in her approach, sometimes all at once. Sarah tells stories from her life as a mom, a wife, a physician and a life coach that make me laugh . . . and make me think. A lot. What I appreciate most is the many life lessons and opportunities to rethink how we think about our life and our choices that Sarah includes in these pages. An important message is that we aren't all alike, we do think differently, and that is just fine and dandy. In fact, it is the way we are supposed to be.This is not a book that needs to be read from start to finish. The book includes topics from A-Z. Sarah also includes short autobiographical stories, introducing herself as a BEAN ARTIST, a CLIFF JUMPER, a HUNTRESS and a CREATIVE DIRECTOR, among others. The index and table of contents make it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. There is also a short guide called "Uncovering Your Own Multitudes" to help put into practice for yourself the lessons of this book. If you are looking for a book that is both entertaining and full of insight, this book is the answer.

Hysterical and Wise -- I read it in one sitting!
Wow! It's not often that I find a self-helpy title packed with wisdom that makes me laugh out loud. I read it on the plane and people next to me must have thought I was crazy, I kept laughing so much. This is the perfect book for you if you love to laugh and have trouble fitting in to mainstream society (even if you have them fooled most of the time). Sarah will totally validate you, reassure you and leave you with plenty of tips and guidance to be your freakiest self. And as a mother of four who left a prestigious job as a pathologist who now writes incredible books like this one and What the Walrus Knows she inspires all of us to believe that we truly can make a career out of our cooky passions. I love how the book is organized in Alphabetical order -- I like to use it as a daily guide and just open it up to a new letter each day for a little hit of inspiration. And as always with Sarah the design is beautiful (if you like this don't miss her iPhone app). She is a true BEAN artist. Thank you Sarah for doing your freaky thing and inspiring the rest of us to do it too!
