The text was developed by and written for Carmelite Novice Masters throughout the world. The material is somewhat dated (produced between 1932 and 1934) but it cuts to the matters that are the most important concepts of a Carmelite spiritual life. It was produced from the point of view of the O. Carms, but, as a Secular Discalced Carmelite, I found that the material transcended the two Orders and often discussed the Discalced saints and reform. I enjoyed reading it and even meditating on many of its themes. I particularly found that the discussion on the Carmelite Rule that spans both Orders of Carmel (written by St. Albert of Jerusalem between 1206 and 1214 A.D.), the place of solitude in the midst of the active life, fixed times for contemplation, daily meditation and the recitation of the Divine Office to be important.I'm glad this little book has been reprinted and I'll return to it often.

An Informative Book...
A very informative book. However, it's a book not written specifically for Lay Carmelites which is what I was looking for. Fortunately, there are many lessons that can be applied for lay persons.

Five Stars
This is a wonderful book for all Carmelites. And as Carmelites we should have this book on our shelfs.

Great book on living a life for God while living in the world, not for the world.
