Luke (N. T. Wright for Everyone Bible Study Guides)

Using this guide as part of a group Bible study. Well written and helpful tool for studying Luke.

This is the best book that I have found thus far to lead a Bible study discussing a book of the Bible. I have been leading groups on and off for years and this has been hands down the best book I have come across. There are intro sections to each chapter, following by an icebreaker, discussion questions and even a prayer section at the end. It is straight forward and thought provoking. From here we plan to continue with the book of Acts study.

I've used the "For Everyone" series of commentaries several times, so when we were looking for a new small group curriculum this great bible study by Wright was an automatic contender. We've been using it for 8 weeks now and our participants are big fans. Wright balances his comments with discussion-inducing questions that get our groups talking. There is also a great leader's guide at the back of the book that can help any volunteer become a top-notch small group leader. While it is really meant for group work, this could also make for a good personal study guide along with the corresponding New Testament for Everyone commentary.

This book is a guided Bible study on the Gospel of Luke. It presents questions that would be helpful in a group discussion of Luke. However, I had hoped for more instruction concerning Luke's Gospel. The author has an excellent reputation as a Bible scholar, so I had hoped for more input from him in this book. I'd like more to work with in studying the Bible than just my own opinions. Nevertheless, it would serve as a useful guide for discussion.

NT Wright is great!! Learning a lot thru his studies

A great study guide to learn the life of Jesus in Luke's perspective. We use it for our bible study group but I personally think it is great for individual study as well.

We used this for an adult Bible study that has participants with vastly different levels of biblical knowledge.While Wright asks some helpful questions and makes insightful comments, often his questions jump over the text itself to fit it into his interpretive scheme or to try to apply it before examining it. Also, there are speculative questions about what the characters in the text might have been thinking. It's clear that he felt the need to counter critical scholars, but these comments also divert attention away from the text. Overall it was disappointing for a scholar of his ability not to pay more attention to the text itself. Our group wants to continue with Luke's companion volume, the Acts of the Apostles, and we are looking for a study that helps us to walk through the text, the main purpose of a Bible study.
