Tower of Power remastered to sound better.
My favorite band can be a little shrill or bright on other copies of these two classic recordings. Someone got these two remasters to sing without too much brightness which can be a little tricky for this Killa horn section.

Soul Rocking in Retrospect
A super price for a great set--saw these guys live a number of times and they were never a disappointment--this set falls right in line with that

A Big Funkin' Bump, But No Bruise!
It was 1974 when I first got an earful of this well-oiled soul-funk machine and to this day they continue to inspire. Great music made by great musicians! Bump City (1972) was my introduction to the band that would set the bar for all fierce enough to follow. Only recently I picked up their first record, East Bay Grease (1970). After auditioning it, my impressions suggested that it was Bump City which truly established their sonic and conceptual identity in terms that were not yet fully realized on the Grease release. Don't misunderstand, East Bay points the way, but Bump captures a recording sound, song sense, rhythmic economy, and the well-crafted arranging that has, to my ear, been carried forward thru to the present. In my view Tower is the authentic prototype for the species! TOP is: Horn driven funk, soulful lyrics with rich harmony, and masterfully executed drum set orchestrations - all in lock-step with the most poppin' bass guitar phrasing - producing, perhaps, the phattest phunk pocket and deepest groove imaginable! It hurts soooo good!! 'Nuff said.

The Tower hit their funky bell-bottomed stride - essential!
Right from the get-go the groove commands you to submit: and like the man says "You got to Funkifize". This, only their second album, finds Tower of Power already sounding 'classic'. It's tight, well arranged and produced, and has bags of feel. As well as toe-tappin', finger poppin' grooves like 'Skating On Thin Ice' and the über-funk of 'Down To The Nightclub', these righteous soul brothers also like to get mellow, as on tracks like 'What Happened To The World That Day?' or the sad flutey piano lead ballad 'Gone (In Memory Of Jacqueline Mesquite)'. 'Flash In The Pan' and 'You're Still A Young Man' sum up the overall vibe: righteous soul. Then there's the eco-warrior sign-off 'Of The Earth'. It's almost too righteous! And the cover is so bad its good! It's a must-buy item this, don't hesitate...

My first TOP record I ever bought in the 70's
It was my first record I bought from TOP and it made me bought the whole catalog......I first heard You're still a young man, then Down to the nightclub, on the radio. From that moment I knew I had to get that record....And it was since then that I became a fan of Tower of Power.....In the CD period I started my collection again.....Met David Garibaldi in Montreal for a drum clinic he was giving for Yamaha drums and Sabian cymbals.......Such a great player and suc an amazing human being person........I'm still Hooked on thei music....THis album is a must for your collection or just to listen to some good funk and TOP style of music......
