Book of the Dead: The Complete History of Zombie Cinema (Updated & Fully Revised Edition)

this book is a nice addition to your film libray it is almost currnt but i guess they decided to drop the color insert section in this addition,, i had read that this book had color pics from horror films like zombie but mine didnt have it ,, perhaps was the bule book version maybe?Being a zombie film having this book helps me find films i may have missed so got it next to my videohounds vampires on video and regular videohound books they are a must for fans of horror and film.....

I started return on this book the same day I received it due to the lack of images. From what the others reviews say this books sounds like a good read. I skimmed through it but the lack of images made it a bit disappointing. This book is 98% text. As much has I love to read, when it comes to zombie related reading material my favorite thing are lots of gory pictures, pictures of movie poster, behind the scene pictures, so on and so forth.

A fun and entertaining read. I highly recommend to any and all horror and zombie fans!

Fans of zombie films should get BOOK OF THE DEAD for Jamie Russell's interesting and exhaustive (if not complete) survey. The focus is on British and American zombie cinema, but Russell's take on the Spanish REC, for one non-Anglo example, is on-target and interesting. But even there, he belabors the political elements; I suspect very few fans of REC are so because of the bashing of the Catholic church, but Russell goes on and on about it, like he's been looking for an excuse to do so and here it is, so he's running with it. Similarly, his obvious hatred of George W. Bush starts to get ridiculous (he sneers that Bush's "scriptwriters" provided an answer to a rhetorical question, as if no other president giving a State of the Union speech ever used a script). Every real-world evil happening under a Republican president is that president's fault, while Democratic presidents are just kind of there when bad things happen on their watch.If the above paragraph had you rolling your eyes, you got my point. I'm obviously to Russell's right politically (though not that far), but I'd feel the same were the target Clinton or Obama. There's nothing wrong with political material in a film book when trying to link real-world events to cinematic responses. This isn't a complicated complaint: He just goes on long after the point has been made. Like I did.This really is the only criticism I've got. My favorite feature of the book is the filmography. It is over 130 pages long and includes brief summaries and comments on hundreds of zombie films. Russell's critiques are short, sharp and to the point, showing why he picked this film for inclusion (historical value to the development of the genre, excellence on a low budget, etc.), and the average zombie movie fan (as opposed to the obsessive) will find dozens of titles to hunt down in the night.A fun, absorbing read that could have been better, but so what? If you agree with Russell's political views you'll probably enjoy yet more print spent bashing the right and praising the left as the only possible viewpoint, so have at it. For anyone else, it's no big deal--I did give it four out of five stars, and it deserves them.

A must have book for fans of the zombie subgenre of horror.Well written and plenty of new zombie movies for me to check out.Good book.

A really good book, well thought out and coverage is great. This is an updated version of the original book and I think that the original had more glossy pics, etc than this edition (I had a look at the original book online and was a little disappointed that this one appears to be set out quite differently). However, as it is a new edition it's very up to date. I bought this as a present and the receiver seems happy.

Lots of really good detailed content. Great if you are a zombie fan like me.
