Works perfectly, got me out of a hole
This item couldn't be simpler, just plug everything together and away you go - Used it to restore some data to a 'Borked' Hard drive for a customer - Did exactly what it said on the tin.

Does what it is supposed too
This was something i had bought s similar one to years ago, that one was chepa and didnt work..Now fast forward to recent times, i no longer have a pc with dvd drive bays, so i bought me a external dvd writer for occasional discs burning, that screwed up after 12 discs, but would work when it felt like it, i then brought another drive, this was also hit and miss, so i bought a third , which just didn't work at all..So not sure if it was cheap unreliable drives, or something more sinister with my freshly built i7-12700k gaming pc i decided to try my luck with one of these and use a spare internal dvd driveIt has worked flawlessly, i leave the adaptor connected to the drive and carefull unplug power and sata cable and store the drive in a draw. its saved me a lot of stress and in the long run money buying portable drives that just dont work for the amount of discs i seem to burn.. Top bit of kit

Perfect for connecting 5.25" optical drives, only one (small) caveat
I have been trying for some time to find a compact SATA to USB 3.0 adaptor that truly supports 5.25" optical drives and that can use a standard 5.5mm/2.5mm 12v DC power supply to supply the additional power that 3.5"/5.25' drives require. Adaptors that do this appear to be as rare as hen's teeth; most SATA to USB adaptors just don't support optical drives. I've tried others that are advertised as compatible with optical drives but they didn't work. Then I came across this Inateck UA1001 device, tried it -- and it works!I've tried this adaptor with three Blu-ray drives of differing makes/models/ages and can read discs on all of them with no problems. I haven't tried writing to discs as that's not something I need to do, but can't see that being a problem. Reading and writing to 3.5" drives also seems to work fine, as expected.I've also used it to flash the firmware on one of my Blu-ray drives (most people won't want or need to do this, but it is useful to unlock some of the drive features). Support for this with SATA to USB adaptors is hit-and-miss at best, but it worked perfectly first time with this one.The one (small) caveat: these adaptors seem to be very picky about being used through USB hubs. I have an odd setup with lots of devices connected to a Mac mini through daisy-chained USB hubs, which although not pretty and not really advisable, has worked perfectly for years. I've never had an issue with externally powered devices being used anywhere in this setup before, but my Blu-ray drives through these adaptors seem to struggle further down the USB chain as if they don't have enough power (even though they are have plenty of power available from a beefy external PSU). Oddly, different drives behave differently--my LG drive from 2008 will only work in a 4-port hub with nothing else attached (or plugged in directly to the computer's USB port), whereas a new LG drive bought a few months ago works fine in a 7-port hub with other devices attached. I suspect that if I used powered USB hubs then that would fix this particular issue. Most people won't come across this problem as they'll plug the adaptor directly into a USB port on their computer. It's not a deal-breaker for me as I can work around it.It's a great little device. Very happy to have eventually found something that works so well.[Amazon also list a very similar looking adaptor from Lindy (search for B0734L7CL4) that is listed as working with optical drives. I also tried that one as it is cheaper and doesn't include a power supply (which I don't need as I already have a box full of suitable ones). It seems to use the same ASMedia chipset, based on the USB vendor and product IDs, but a different firmware. It worked with 3.5" HDDs, but I could not get it to work at all with optical drives, so had to return it]

Not good with Netac SSD
I bought this interface intending to use a SSD which I bought Netac SSD 120GB Internal SSD from Amazon. I connected it with no problem and starting to transfer a10GB file to it. The transfer stopped 3 times and each time it stopped, the transfer rate was 0 and after 30-45 seconds, the transfer resumed. I then tested the Netac with a Tecknet USB 3 caddy and also with a Seagate Sata to USB interface, no stoppage there, i.e. the Netac was not at fault. This Inateck was OK with a DVD drive and also with a 3.5 HDD, no stoppages there. It just does not wok well with the SSD drive.Edit: I bought a Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB and it tested OK with this cable, the new conclusion is this cable has some compatibility problem with Netac SSD, do not mix the two !!!

Does not work for advertised capacity.
It's a good bit of kit for small drives. It works fine up to 4TB on a 2.5 drive but anything over 1TB 3.5 drive will not play well. It will read the drives fantastic but should you try to write to them you'll get random disconnects. So no good for large form factor archive disks unfortunately! It works fine with CD/DVD/BD drives also. I've not tried writing to a disc with it in the 2 years I've owned it but it's been reading discs from my BDR drive without a problem.Would NOT recommend for use with 3.5" drives but everything else seems okay.

great bit of kit
great bit of kit ,i have an old bluray burner, i taped up and use this to make it work as newer pc cases dont have places to put cd burners in, so the burner sits on my desk now with this plugged in the back to make it work and with the added bonus if i need to test a drive out i can just plug it in to this to test the drive out

Works faultlessly
Works without a hitch. If you are in need of accessing drives without installing them in your PC then this is exactly what you need.
