Product Description TV veterans Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton star as news anchors working together at a Pittsburgh television station. .com There are a variety of reasons that Back to You was canceled after a single season on the air, but quality most certainly is not one of them. The 17 episodes collected in this three-disc set reveal that this was a sitcom with all its ducks in a row, including an excellent pedigree (between them, co-executive producers Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan had been involved in various capacities in shows like Frasier, Just Shoot Me, and The Golden Girls), considerable star power and chemistry with Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton in the lead roles, a fine supporting cast, and first-rate writing. The premise is good, too: Having left Pittsburgh TV station WURG a decade earlier to pursue fame and fortune in places like Dallas and Los Angeles, news anchor Chuck Darling (Grammer) has returned to his former employer. His failures in those larger ponds have scarcely made him less preening and arrogant, but the news that a drunken one-night stand with once and future co-anchor Kelly Carr (Heaton) resulted in a daughter whos now ten years old definitely throws him for a loop. What ensues is a seasons worth (well, almost--the 2007 Writers Guild strike left the producers without a full complement of episodes) of typical rom-com sniping, snarking, and sexual innuendo between the two stars. Do Chuck and Kelly tell little Gracie (and everyone else) the truth? How long will it take before the two parents admit theyre crazy about each other and get on with their long-delayed relationship? Nothing groundbreaking here, but Back to You is smart, adult, sometimes pretty silly (a running gag involving goldfish in "Fish Story" is a riot), and almost always funny, even as it deals with such serious issues as a dad trying to get to know the kid he never even knew he had. As for the supporting cast, Fred Willard is reliably off-the-wall as a veteran sportscaster, and Ty Burrell excels as the field reporter whose humiliating assignments only deepen his bitterness that he didnt get the anchor gig (oddly, the cheesecake weather girl disappears before seasons end, while Gracie is played by two different actresses). Best among the bonus material is a 30-minute behind-the-scenes featurette that details the making of the show, from conception to cancellation. --Sam Graham

Grammer and Heaton fans, don’t miss this.
The DVDs arrived quickly and play fine. The big news, for a lot of us, is discovering this unjustly short-lived comedy from 2007.It has all the elements of a series that should have aired longer. Grammer and Heaton are flawless, and the writing is crisp. There’s a slightly clunky change, in the young actresses playing the daughter (I would’ve liked to see the original girl, especially for the “reveal” espisode) but the supporting cast works well and includes the inimitable Fred Willard. If this series had run longer, Patricia Heaton may not have given us “The Middle”s Frankie Heck—but “Back To You” does her resume proud, and it should be seen. Thankfully, it didn’t drop into the same tragic oblivion as other quality series that were hatcheted in their first run (like “The Five Mrs. Buchanans” and “The Powers That Be”)...as well as seasons 2-10 of “Murphy Brown”) and at this price, it’s a must-buy. Thanks to Amazon for putting it out there.

FOX messed up
Two news anchors reunited for Pittsburgh news. They have a past. News room full of characters are all friends. You watch them at work and outside of work.Very Cheer's, Fraiser, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc like. Not political at all. But, the only problem is the premise around the two main characters' interaction at this point--their history. Not very family friendly. Not mature. Not responsible. Anyway, very Hollywood, liberal, Western Civ cultural rottish. But if you can move beyond/ignore/roll your eyes at/sigh at the premise the show is not bad. It is very tame. There is witty banter. There is silliness. There is humor. But there is a point. Not just plastic trees standing around talking to make a show about nothing like Will and Grace or Friends . . . you know to pay for the actors to get haircuts and date movie stars . . . give them something to do. Discovered that Ty Burrell guy. He is so yummy. I love to hear him talk. Would love for him to wrap his arms around me while I snuggle his neck resting my head on his shoulder and listen to the vibrations off of his larynx while he talks to me. Legs intertwined on the sofa. Ahhh. I bet he has a good natural smell. And I bet he gives the best "you are my world" hugs. Double ahh. Anyway, it is kinda bitter sweet enjoyment though. Good show. But only one season. As I understand it Fox hesitated. Oh well. At least you can enjoy one season.

Still funny after all these years
This was a well written comedy and a one-season wonder. I can imagine that Patricia Heaton, Ty Burrell, Fred Willard, Kelsey Grammer, and Josh Gad all are familiar figures in comedies of television and the big screen. They all shine here. The dialogue is clever because the characters are well drawn. The humor makes you laugh, not just smile. When a series has the right cast and chemistry, as this one does, you have to wonder why it lasted only one season. The creators of the show went on to create 'Modern Family.' If you like MF (who doesn't?), then you will appreciate BTY!It holds its own with modern comedies, after all this time! I watched the first (and only season) for the first time 13 years after it aired and found it hilarious. I can keep this around for those dreary covid-19 lockdown days. No social distancing that I can see!

Way too good to be cancelled!
Place two strong personalities as competing coanchors on the nightly news and you have Kelly Carr and Chuck Darling. Add the fact that a one night stand resulted in a child between them and you have a lot of different emotions to deal with. The main leads are supported with a great cast (weather girl, sports guy, news director, and reporter) that brings many different personalities into conflict as well as support of each other. It's a battle of egos as the two former coanchors have to learn to work together again. Plus realizing 10 years later while on the air that he has a child with his coanchor is quite the challenge for Chuck Darling to maintain professional in the workplace with the secret. Kelly Carr had told her daughter Gracie and the fellow staff that it was a sperm donor.Still living at hotels, Chuck is big on fun and low on commitment beyond his job. There's a lot of growing up for all involved as they try to sort out how they feel about each other. You could say the 10 years apart has actually allowed Kelly and Chuck to grow closer together in their previous huge differences. One of those "not a couple" but have the chemistry to return there as they balance each other so well in who gets the "best" of the other in their conversations. The network did mess around changing Grace's actress and dropped the weather girl completely. However even with those big mistakes, the series still moved forward with style. If you like blunt honesty...this series sure has it. I have not laughed this much watching a tv sitcom in years so can't understand why any network would cancel it.

Coulda been a contender
Instantly funny, with a blend of characters that jelled right away. The chemistry was great. Three episodes in I was wondering how the heck fire could this have been canceled. Maybe it tailed off in the next few episodes, and midway through there was, IMHO, an unfortunate cast change that I will not reveal. But the show picked up and finished strong. Any fan of Cheers or Frasier (or a workplace sit com like News Radio) will want this. The Chuck Darling character, played by Kelsey Grammer, is no Frasier Crane, but more like a warped mirror version him; there are hints of Sam Malone. Patricia Heaton is excellent in a role where she is not primarily a wife/mom; fans of Everyone Loves Ray or The Middle might want to pick this up.Oddly, the 3rd and final disk has a different menu system, and it seems that the 3 episodes it contains fall elsewhere in the story line.I think that there was a lot of gas in the tank to fuel future story-lines despite the fact the initial I-am-your-father arc had some closure. Given that Mr Grammer went on to the less successful Hank, it is disappointing that this show was canceled. I will watch it again. There are some decent extras on the 3rd DVD, with many of the cast, including Mr Grammer providing remarks in a 'making-of' featurette.

One of the funniest sitcoms of the 21st Century.
Excellent acting, excellent writing - why was it cancelled? Much of the same creative team and several actors went on to Modern Family to greater success. Kelsey Grammer has not yet seemed to find another great vehicle after Frasier so has decided to return to it in 2022. And Patricia Heaton is perhaps even better here than she was in Everybody Loves Raymond; all these people are at the top of their game. But why call this "Season 1" when there is no Season 2? It was cancelled in 2008 after just 14 episodes, with the remaining 3 unaired except in Australia - but included here on DVD.

A hidden gem of a comedy
I only found out about the existence of this comedy by sure accident. Top notch actors of which many went on to other very successful comedies. The first few episodes are fine but the remaining were hilarious. For the price well worth the hours of entertainment. As commented by others it is simply incredible to believe that this comedy did not return after the writers strike which halted its production.

Really funny show!
Really funny show!! Just recently received it and a few episodes in but the cast is perfect, witty and funny. Love how it was created by Lloyd and Levitan who do Modern Family now, definitely worth watching!!

He is a great character actor
This was one of his better shows after Frasier. He still has his funny ways about him and the chemistry with the other actors was great. He suffered a massive heart attack during this show and when he was healthy again the network didn't renew the show, which is why it is less than a full season. It is certainly worth watching if you were a fan of cheers and or frasier.
