Padre Pio: The Stigmatist

To be honest I didn't think I'd find another really good book on Saint Padre Pio. I figured  Padre Pio: The True Story  couldn't be topped, but this book which is older is perhaps a nice counterpart with Ruffin's biography. Whereas this book is not as detailed on the biography parts of the book it is more detailed on the miraculous aspects of Padre Pio. It gives some detailed acounts of cures, miracles and conversions. Often times giving the names and dates of the people involved. It has detailed accounts of his medical reports as well as discussing his ability to bilocate. It even has a whole chapter on Padre Pio's spiritual maxims and another on letters to his spiritual children. I have no doubt to the authenticity of Padre Pio's holiness and his works which were done by the grace of God. Skeptics who try to say that St. Pio's wounds were faked and that he was a fraud don't know what they are talking about. Padre Pio after working a miracle would always direct the the cured person to God instead of himself. He would tell them to thank God and not him. This is an excellent book and recommend it for any Padre Pio fan.

This book offers the story of Padre Pio, as well as letters written by a he Saint to his friends and his spiritual children. Included are many testimonials from people who experienced or witnessed countless miracles attributed to him.

Increases my devotion to him.

The humble Capuchin monk who received the sacred wounds of Jesus Christ, or the stigmata, which he bore the rest of his life. Medical science could not explain it. He also possessed other unusual qualities, such as bilocation, celestial perfume, miraculous cures, reading of hearts, remarkable conversions and prophetic insight. He did not leave his monastery, and was under obedience not to write or preach, but he became world famous, especially as a confessor, and was universally regarded as a Saint in his own time. A good book for anyone interested to know more about Padre Pio.

The book was recommended to my by a member or my men's group. Padre Pio was someone I didn't know that much about but he has been added to my list of favorite saints because of the story told in this book. I read a good deal of religious literature and have already started lending the book out and recommending it to friends and family.

I truly LOVE reading books on saints, and if you are looking for a good book on St. Padre Pio and his life, this is one of them! Highly recommend!

Excellent account of the life of Padre Pio. Includes numerous letters describing first-hand encounters with the Saint and the miracles wrought by his intercession. Many photos included - not only of Padre Pio and his family but of some of the people he cured. An excellent lesson in faith and an inspiring read.

Wonderful spiritual reading. Contemporary saint, which we have access to his work and life's story. For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.

Great book about this amazing saint. Was disappointed there wasn't more biographical material though - it concentrates almost exclusively on his remarkable gifts of conversion of sinners, prophetic words to penitents, bilocation, etc. But a wonderful book about St. Pio after all.. would definitely recommend.

A great book to learn about this amazing Saint and his works. I could not put it down. Truly inspiring!

２箇所同時出現、聖痕,病の癒し、悪魔祓い、個人的な事柄に関する予知や透視、など奇蹟のデパートのような現代に生きたピオ神父。たくさん書かれた本の中で、一番良い本なのですが、不思議とどなたも日本語訳されていない本。英語の原文は、英険準１級くらいのレベルで読めるので、大学生の方、帰国子女の方、ご覧下さい。一番良いのは、ピオ神父の生の言葉が収められていること。聖人の言葉は、鋭く、重く、私たちの悩みを癒してくれます。カトリック教徒のみならず、貧しい人、病の人、苦難の中で絶望している人たちへのピオ神父からのメッセージです。イエズスや聖母マリアに次いで、奇蹟を起こした方で、今は煉獄の炎の中で、罪びとのために、焼かれながら祈っています。「私の最大の苦難は、苦難を受けていないときである」とおっしゃってます。奇蹟を排除する今日の社会・教会の中にあって、彼は20世紀最大の収穫だったのではないでしょうか？

アメリカの方が、聖ピオ神父の良書があると聞いて、購入しました。届くまでだいぶ時間がかかりましたが、英文でも、読みやすいレベルだと思います。先に、日本の『ピオ神父の生涯』を読んでから、こちらを読むと、面白いと思います。生涯をつずった本というよりは、各章にテーマがあって、『聖痕』という章では、聖痕についてまとめてあり、違った観点からピオ神父を知ることができると思います。まだ途中なんですが、楽しく読んでいます。お勧めの良書です。
