Amazingly fantastic....
Great product! My tank came with a filter but I noticed my fish were staying on top constantly. I read that they were not getting enough oxygen. I decided on this filter. Literally within an hour the fish were more energetic and lively and as of the following day the tank is crystal clear and the fish colors are vibrant. It's very easy to install and figure out. Only issue inhad was squeezing the air pump hose onto the filter tube as it was a little big. However I managed to get it on and it's working perfectly. It also has 2 very strong suction cups that hold it on place inside the tank. The featured tank is a 10 gallon tank at 12 inches tall, so the tube at its lowest is still a bit tall and will extend a lot higher! I did remove the previous filter and I am using this sponge filter as a stand alone and it is working much better! You can see it in action in the video above. This is definitely worth every penny. I highly recommend it.

Good value and working great
I’ve been using this sponge filter for a few months and so far no regrets. My only complaint is it can be slightly difficult to clean the inside of the tubes but that’s to be expected. Some rolled up paper towel does the trick.

Super powerful little sponge filter!
Super powerful little filter! I use this in my 5 gallon tank for my betta. It’s a little on the larger side but fits in my tank still and works beautifully. The ONLY issue I had was getting the tubing I had to fit on the end of the filter (where it connects to the air pump). It took a long time, but after soaking the end in hot water I got the tubing to attach. Doesn’t disrupt the surface of the water very much, which makes it perfect for betta fish.

Almost Perfect
The media could not be loaded. My sponge filter arrived today and I set it up in my 20 gallon show tank (or 20 high/20R). The quality seems pretty solid, regardless of how inexpensive it was. The sponge itself seems dense yet very porous and that’s what I want – a massive surface area to house a megaton of beneficial bacteria.. well, relatively speaking, of course. I positioned it as close to the surface as possible because I don’t want too much water flow, and I want to avoid hooking up a gang-valve. It’s a little bit of an eye sore, but for keeping my fish healthy and maintaining my busy life, I hope it’s worth it. I want to enjoy my pets, not work a second job for them. The plastic column is indeed expandable and it’s a snug fit to promote water flow. The sponge can be angled, and the output head can be directed. The suction cups (two, top and bottom) seem sturdy; however, this is brand new. Everything seems as advertised. The one irritating challenge was to fit the airline tubing onto the rigid plastic tube. I had purchased an air pump that was super tiny and super silent, and I am lucky that it came with the soft silicone airline tubing. At first I thought the silicone tubing was narrower than normal as it was almost impossible to stretch over the rigid tubing. So, I rushed out to the pet store to purchase the standard airline tubing to which I was familiar. I brought that home and that was even more difficult to connect to the rigid tubing. Thus, the company that I bought the air pump from did not send second-rate airline. It is much more likely that the cheap sponge filter was made with “alternate” pieces and parts. While I think everything else it legitimate, this issue was a pain in the neck and a$$. Ultimately, I cut the original silicone airline and inserted a check valve and rubbed off a few layers of skin cells to push it over the rigid tube. You can see the stressed connection in the video and in the blurry pic above my Veiltail Rosy Barb's head. I guess for the super cheap price, I should not complain, but I do want to review all the pros and con(s).Also, the logo on the stem is a sticker! Foolish me, I ran the sponge filter with a sticker in my tank and the glue dissolved in the water. Of course I did an immediate water change, but well, just fyi. This sponge filter is very old school but I think it’ll work better than the AquaClear 30 that I was running as an exclusive biological filter. Even with a layer of polishing foam added to the media, that AQ30 did not seem to be able to keep up with my Rosy Barb, 8 Cardinal Tetras, 7 Neon Tetras and two Bristlenose Plecos. I’m also running an AquaClear 50 with the typical three layers of sponge, carbon and bio balls. So, I thought that the two AquaClears (that are normally awesome filters for the money) could manage… but I will see if this OG sponge filter can do better.I’ll try to provide an update.

Good sponge filter for the cost.
Adjustable and you can angle the sponge. I actually cut down the top pipe a little for my needs and it works great.

Great!
Great filter. Bigger than I realized (I have a 5 gallon tank) you need regular sized airline tubing
