BSAVA Manual of Psittacine Birds (BSAVA British Small Animal Veterinary Association)

Best book for avain health on the market.
If you own a bird, just buy it. I know it's expensive but this book is outstanding. Its written for vets so yeah okay there's some bits the average Joe won't need (a whole chapter on avain surgery), but literally every ailment your birds can get and how to treat them is in here. I've got litteraly hundreds of birds. This book I garuntee will save many birds in the future. Speciality avain vets are few and far between. Most of us bird keepers have an exotic vet at best. This book will help you to ask your vet the right questions. This book allows me to call the vet requesting specific tests for a questionable bird and get the right treatment quickly. My normal vet is happy to do the tests or things I ask for from this and this book saves me having to transport a very sick bird hours away to get to our avain specialist. He's not an avain specialist but will see the birds if they're too poorly to travel long distances. This book helps us help them. Helps having an amazing vet that listens to the owners though.Plus it's just interesting if you're a bird nerd. I've read it cover to cover and there's loads in here I'm litteraly never going to encounter. It's just really interesting stuff. If you're an actual vet (ya know the person this book is for lol) you'll make even better use of this than us normals. You'll actually understand a lot of the jargon. Please if you're a regular vet do us all a solid and add this book to your arsenal of knowledge. Our birds will thank you for it. Also thanks for being a vet. You guys are awesome.

A Beautiful Book
It's a quite beautiful book. It's written by vets for vets; even so, I, as a layman wanting to care for my budgies more scientifically than in the past, find it most useful. Credit to the editors/publishers for a superbly comprehensive index, without which the book would be of limited use. The illustrations and photos are almost all in colour and of very good quality. Colour is used within the text to distinguish tables and notes of interest. It is well written and readable and seems to be well edited.I do believe this book is well worth its price, and I am extremely pleased with it.

one of the best available
I really like the BSAVA publications, mostly... the format in which information is presented, the only 'but' is the price, but it's worthy.
