Best Easy Day Hikes Yellowstone National Park (Best Easy Day Hikes Series)

Bought for my friends and they loved it.

This is a good list of easy hikes in Yellowstone, with sublists in the front like "Best Hikes with Children," "Best Hikes for Waterfalls," etc. Maps are good. The only problem for me, a senior citizen, is that each hike lists only mileage, no mention of total elevation gain. In other words, a 5-mile hike with 50 feet of elevation gain is a lot different than a 5-mile hike with 500 feet of elevation gain. In the text, a few times author describes a "steep section," but again no specifics. Modern phone apps like WikiLoc now easily measure mileage and elevation gain, so perhaps all subsequent editions could include this info.

We used this book, correlating its recommendations with "Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone Day Hikes (20th Anniversary Edition)", a book which you definitely should buy. This book's main virtue is brevity. If you don't read fast, or maybe English isn't your first language, or you just don't want to spend time reading, this book is a good choice.

I was expecting this book to have more hikes especially those that aren’t already well known. There wasn’t anything in this book that you can’t get from free brochures in the park. I own a few other hiking Yellowstone books and this was by far the least informative in my opinion. If you know absolutely nothing about YNP it’s not bad but for anyone who has been there before this won’t give you new trails to try.

I became a big fan of the Falcon Guides when I purchased their book for hiking in Glacier National Park. Now I'm planning to revisit Yellowstone, this time staying long enough to actually do some hiking and exploring! So of course the first thing I did was go to Amazon.com and order this book and Hiking Yellowstone National Park. If the Yellowstone versions of these books are anything like the Glacier versions, I will certainly get my money's worth.The Best Easy Day Hikes books are divided up by area of the park, so one you decide what part of the park you are going to visit or be in on a specific day, you can flip right there and pick a trail or two. Each trail in the book gives easy-to-follow instructions on how to find the trailhead, the total distance of the hike, and a general idea of how long to expect the hike to take. They also typically describe the terrain and difficulty, and give a lot of other useful information particular to that particular trail (for example, flora or fauna, switchbacks, wildlife you are likely to encounter, trails that are extremely popular and therefore likely to be crowded).

This book was a great help planning my resent visit to Yellowstone. It has clear descriptions and directions. The hikes are categorized based on the features of each trail. For example, if you prefer waterfalls, geysers or wildlife it lists the hikes with these features and ranks them. I also like its small size and light weight. Easy to carry in my day pack.

This book helped us a ton with planning out our hikes with our 5 year old. It really helped me plan out different parts of the park to explore and I used the map to decide on campsites too. It’s small size made it easy to keep it on hand.

The description of the different trails is quite ok. Whats really annoying is the fact, that the shown maps of the trails are not detailled enough. Not all trails are shown, and also not all of the spots next to the trail. You always need an additional map.

This is a very nice easy to read map. It is coated so this will keep for many years to come.
