I have used GRK fasteners on several projects in the past (fence work) and they always have been very easy to use. It is a very well engineered fastener. That chunk cut out of the tip makes it like a drill to get started in the wood very easy. Just above the threads (close to the end the bit fits into) is a part they call a CEE Thread that drills out the last inch or so a little wider than the rest of the shaft. This is so the part that you are fastening to the wood is not in the threaded part of the work. This allows the piece to be drawn in very tight by the star drive head, which is kind of like having a washer by the head (no pulling the screw too far through the work).Overall it is like a mini lag bolt with a washer. And is approved for use in treated lumber. The bulk price at Amazon was the best . I have NEVER had one break, and only a few (5 or 6) out of almost a thousand have had the star head that was not able to take the bit properly to be able to use.

I've used GRK fasteners for constructing a 2-level deck and dozens propagation benches, growing benches, and raised beds for my backyard nursery. Never let me down. The 5-1/8" is great for fastening 2x lumber into end grain. The screw design drills its own hole, reams the hole a bit in the top 2x, and makes it trivial to tightly snug boards together. I've bought so many 50 packs in 4 different lengths that I'm now just buying the bulk packs.
