Face to Face: Praying the Scriptures for Intimate Worship

This is a great book, but it is more complex than I expected. The daily devotions cover a multitude. Instead of using it according to the instructions in the book, I am using it in conjunction with another more simple book. I use the prayers in this book but use the daily reading in the other book. It works well that way for me. I would recommend, just be aware that it is quite a demanding book.

Bought this at the suggestion of our pastor. It's a terrific aid for daily devotions. Scripture to pray...excellent. It has deepened my walk with Jesus.

I use this book for worshiping and for guided prayer times. I can be distracted when I am praying and this keeps me focused on Jesus and Scripture. When I start my day with these meditations it makes a big difference.

Praying Scripture has rewired my brain for the things of God. I love the way the prayers are structured around the way Jesus taught us to pray. On days when life is hard and words fail me…I can lean into these prayers and draw closer to the One who is holding me.

This author turns Bible passages into prayers that bring you face to face to God. if your goal is for your prayers to build a more intimate relationship between God and yourself, then I recommend this book. this book will change, enrich, and structure your prayer life.

This is a favorite. Well worn pages from great times with the Lord.The formatting is basically scripture chunks rephrased to be personal. Josh 1:7 in the ESV says, "Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go." Whereas Boa's paraphrase says, "May I be strong and courageous and careful to to obey your word; may I not turn from it..."It takes verses like that and makes them a personal prayer to God. Great idea, and good flow from verse to verse. Then after the Scripture rephrase it offers a short directive on praying out of that idea.The book has three months of daily prayers. Each day has several headings like, "Adoration, confession, renewal, petition, intercession, affirmation, thanksgiving, and closing prayer." Excellent resource. Couldn't recommend it higher.

We learn to pray by repeating what we hear others say. Our first prayers may be nothing more than a simple memorized prayer before bedtime or mealtime that we learn as a child. I was raised in a tradition that looked down on "prayer books" and instead advocated using one's own words in prayer. Inevitably, however, one would end up using the words and phrases they heard others say when they prayed. A prayer book is essentially the same thing, except that the prayers have been carefully constructed and often refined and polished through years of use.One advantage of Boa's wonderful prayer book is that it incorporates the words of scripture to form the backbone for one's daily prayer while, at the same time, provides a rotating list of instructions which encourage one to pray, using their own words, over a variety of topics.The book has provided a helpful jump start for my often lifeless attempts at prayer. It helps me pray when that is a low item on my priority list for the day. It has also helped me develop consistency in prayer. I give these books often as gifts and in the beginning of 2008 each family in our congregation was encouraged to purchase a copy that we might all grow together in our devotion to prayer.

Very good book, I love it, I try to use it everyday and night, it's a simple easy way to focus upon and create space for God, to set one's heart and mind upon Him that little bit more (there's always room for more).This book is good for me, especially when I'm too ill or weary to read. I love how the contents exalt God, refers to Scriptures and helps one to pray and focus.
