Good alternative to axle replacement!
Replaced torn boot on '04 Elantra GT. Boot material is a plasticized-rubber, so might be difficult to cut. I used a grinder to trim it to the right size. Was able to slip on without using the 4 'pull-tabs'; needed to cut off the tabs so that they do not rub against the rotating wheel. Make sure the metal bands are positioned correctly in the shaft 'groove' prior to tightening. Glue dries within 5 secs per instructions, so need to work quickly when gluing the boot seal closed around the axle. (I glued one side first prior to wrapping around axle.) Was being careful, so repair took longer than I thought; was concerned about cutting too much boot material off. (Again, grinder cutting wheel worked well for me to cut the tough boot material.) Boot has been on 2.5months and still holding up well; checked on it today. I would definitely buy again; much easier than replacing then replacing the entire axle, wheel hub, etc. and any/all problems that may be encountered with that. I imagine that people that had problems with this replacement boot did not follow the instructions, installed improperly, trimmed the boot improperly, or installed the wrong size boot.

useless garbage
I have used a fair amount of these over the years on my 4x4 truck because sometimes you don't have the time to disassemble the whole 4wd hub assembly to get the axle out to do it right. The old ones used to be a decent rubber compound with screws that held the two sides together and while it didn't last long, it lasted long enough. This new style is more of a semi-flexible plastic, like a cheap dollar store toy, and you glue the two halves together, problem is...the glue doesn't hold anything but your fingers together! I am very mechanically inclined and do a lot of work on my own cars, that being said, this is one frustrating contraption to install. I ended up using a different glue I had on hand and will see how that goes. The supplied glue is far too thin to work as it should. I cleaned the surface and applied a nice bead of glue, held it together for longer than the recommended time...it still didn't hold. I honestly don't have much hope for this thing doing much good but I can follow up later. My main goal is to keep dirt and moisture out of the joint until I can install the OEM boot in the spring.

It's not easy, but for DIYers, it's better than taking axles out!
It's not easy, but for DIYers, it's better than taking axles out! I would do this, again. I tried one side and waited a month. So far no leaks. The second one did leak because I did not secure the boot unit on the wheel side straight on. And, the screw clamp was not on as tight as I should. Oh! Best suggestion I learned: Take the wheel off in STRAIGHT steering; make sure car is secure! Then, with another, smaller jack/lift, try to raise the wheel up to make the axle less at an angle. Don't over do this. This is just to make the angles straighter and you will see why when you try it. :) Finally, the adhesive really works! Plan your steps. I think the instructions state that, too. Do a dry run with the boot sizing. I needed to trim both the inner and outer sides. Do this before you grease up. Glue the ONE side of the boot and give it an hour? to dry. It is not very pliable, so, you might think you'll break it when you put it over the naked and greasy CVJoint. YOU cannot have grease on the glued surfaces when you ready to finish it. Final, final: The material is not happy when sprayed with break cleaner. Degreaser OK. Personal experience. Good luck. Still, I would do this, again.

Works but not perfect
It does fit my car, easy put on the axle, a little bit issue is hard to seal the boot properly, maybe need use a better quality glue.

Size is smaller than claimed.
The quality of the item overall seems fine. I don't know for sure about durability because I just put them on the vehicle. Posts of YouTube show that the glue is very strong. I very much hope so, because the item is smaller than it should be. According to Amazon and numerous other sellers, this fits my vehicle. I need 4 inch ID for the big end. I bought 2 of these, and tried to dry fit one. Looks to be about 3/8 inch too small. I was going to return them, but I can't find any other choice that is bigger. I looked at every spit boot on every website to find one that claims to be 4". Only Doorman publishes detailed information available - Kudos. And more kudos for offering many choices. But this is the only one that claims to be as big as 4 inches. Beck Arnley makes split boots too, but I can't find detailed specs. So, this is the only one that claims the big end is 4 inches inside diameter. It is not. It is about 3 and 11/16. So, I am putting them on, as best I can. I have to stretch the outside end to get it over the rim of the CV joint. This was a HORRENDOUS effort, but I got the drivers side done, and have hopes for the passenger side. The amount of stretch is enough that I fear for the glue/seams. I hope it will hold. I'll need to watch these closely, to see if they hold up, or not. If the Doorman fails prematurely, I'll have to write to Beck Arnley or some British manufactures, and see if they offer boots that will fit my vehicle. The Brit choices look like they will, but the computerized compatibility check says they won't fit. And it would be arduous to get them. I opted for split boots because I didn't want to go through the (supposedly) much larger effort of replacing (or re-booting off the vehicle) the 1/2 shafts. Starting to wonder how much effort I really saved.

Easy, but had to trim shaft side (too small of a hole) and cv joint side ( too large to fit over joint)

Went on ok, but after a week the clamps had come loose, grease leaked out and grit got inside cv shaft. Cleaned out and repeated, ensuring clamps were as tight as possible. Same result a week later. Tried one more time and again same. By this time Cv shaft was trash and had to be replaced. Not worth one penny.

Held up so far

This saves a great deal of time with not having to disassemble/remove the entire CV shaft from the car, but is a pain in the butt to get completely closed up without getting any grease in the seams. I ended up only getting it 90% closed, and put a sealant on the part that did not pull in. Time will tell if this holds up or not. I would think that if you removed the strut to be able to get the boot completely straight, it would be much easier to close and seal, but that would be defeating the purpose of this split boot.
