Professor Parimal Tripathi, played by Dharmendra, is a professor of Botany and his long time best friend Professor Sukumar Sinha, played by Amitabh Bachchan, is a professor of English. Professor Parimal Tripathi marries his sweetheart Sulekha, played by Sharmila Tagore. Sulekha's brother-in-law, played by Om Prakash, is a man who Sulekha looks up to and often praises in her husband's presence. To test this brother-in-law's intelligence, Tripathi decides to play a prank on him. He pretends to be a pure Hindi speaking, Allahabadi driver and convinces his friend Sukumar to take his place instead.
