The Essential Garden Design Workbook Paperback – May 20, 2009

Just starting my journey of landscape design. I found this book to be a wonderful resource. It's (to my untrained eye) very thorough and complete. I like that it's a soft cover and I can keep it handy at poolside and it bends nicely in my backpack. Lots of information, cute little pen and ink drawings. So easy to follow and I think well organized as it leads you from one aspect into another naturally.

Although the author refers to European landscaping, the design theory is still the same if applied in the US. This book is particularly useful for urban gardens as the examples given are, generally, for long, narrow lots. There are plenty of examples and drawings. A newly inspired invidividual wishing to further his knowledge about landscaping should start with this book.

This is a very detailed, very technical book on planning every conceivable aspect of garden design. From fences to pergolas to hedges to ponds, it's all in here. Normally I love detailed books but this was actually a bit more technical than I had hoped for. It's almost like a textbook for professionals (which certainly isn't a bad thing).

I had never done any garden design before reading this book. It takes you through step by step and is very helpful

This book is a "must have" for beginners or students in the landscape architecture field. Very simple to understand and contains solid information.

It is a very good book to have for beginner gardeners like me. It has detailed information and step-by-step process on how to go about creating a well-landscaped garden. It has lots of illustrations and pictures to make sure that the information is understood fully.

Got to say ... just a first class book. Crammed with valuable information, and presented in such a brilliant way (millions of really concise & slightly quirky drawings ... with just the odd photo here and there). Cannot quite believe I'm raving about a garden design book, but there you go ... if you're looking for a helping hand and you are new to this field, I just can't believe there is a better book out there. Feeling very emboldened, and haven't even finished Chapter 2. This thing could be life changing!

My daughter loved this book as she needs it for her BA. Price was great and it was delivered well in time for Christmas so everyone was happy!

Good, easy to read informative book which contains all the basic info and has lots of helpful pictures and diagrams.
