A How-to Guide for Catalyzing Positive Change
The Sustainable World Sourcebook is the essential guidebook for the concerned citizen. As a concise, interdisciplinary compilation that addresses critical issues, the Sustainable World Coalition has created a sophisticated and holistic platform for dialogue and transformative action within a mere 100 pages. The Sourcebook provides a current context and essential vocabulary around issues like global climate change, renewable energy sources and conservation, cultural diversity and social justice, green economics, and growing healthy communities, drilling down to the book's core message: Your personal choices matter and together we can bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just presence on this planet. The Sourcebook gives everyone a place to begin the journey of 1,000 miles. With its companion Learning and Engagement Guide, these books synthesize a critically important literacy for students and communities. As stated by Paul Hawken on page 3 of the Sourcebook, "If you cannot read, books look like cooking fuel. You may see a bird as a gossamer with feathers, but it is also a creator of forests and meadows, flying with its small sac of undigested seeds. We can see the world as doomed and fatally flawed, or we can see every trend and statistic as the possibility of transformation. We can see ourselves as fortunate and separate from the suffering of others, or we can see that our bounty rests heavily on the shoulders of unknown people. Concomitant to our good fortune is the responsibility to create a world of equals, not just a nation of equals."These are among the most important books I've ever read. Together, their potential for catalyzing positive change is literally without limit.

Excellent Resource on Global Sustainability Issues
The Sustainable World Sourcebook has vastly increased my knowledge of issues related to global sustainability. Before reading the Sourcebook, I had no idea what I could do at an individual level to contribute to the solution and stop being part of the problem. The Sourcebook has helped me to realize that every person must contribute to the common good for sustainable solutions to be achieved. In presenting a concise overview of the greatest challenges faced by humanity, the Sourcebook posits solutions on an individual, local, national, and global scale that will provide long lasting peace, environmental conservation, social justice, and a better life for all humans of this shared, wonderful, earth.I recommend this Sourcebook to anyone who is interested in making positive change that will bring humanity closer to solving the toughest global challenges in history. We must all work together to provide renewable energies, minimize consumption, and develop a world in which our children will be safe to live happily and successfully. Become part of the solution by educating yourself and others on these incredibly important issues!

An inspiring sourcebook of sustainable solutions
This is a truly inspiring book. It was apparently born out of a symposium called `Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream' and although I'd never heard of this before now I'm glad it exists if this is one of the results. The Sourcebook brings together masses of useful information on sustainability, covering everything from energy and water usage to community activism. Although it takes a hard look at many of the problems we face, it's not at all gloomy - the idea is to explore solutions that work. In this respect, it does a great job of helping us become more literate in the face of today's huge social and environmental challenges. For me one of the most heartening things about this book is its ability to draw connections between the health of the planet and our own spiritual wellbeing. We're all part of the web of life - and The Sourcebook is a great starting point for taking this on board in a meaningful way.

It shows what impact your choices make on the world, and how you can go about making that change, both individually and collectively. It presents some of the best solutions to today's major issues, and finishes by providing an incredibly comprehensive resource directory, providing information on where you can best find out more about environmental, energy, economic and community issues.A fantastic reference book that every individual and organization should have in their library to answer questions about the sustainability issues challenging us today - and importantly - it provides where to go to find out even more.

Concise, comprehensive, compelling
It's amazing what the Sourcebook does in just 100 pages - outlines the key features of virtually all the pressing global challenges of our time, and points toward hope as it outlines the many viable solutions being advanced across the globe. Although "Sustainable" is in the title, this book is not just about sustainability -- it's about the interrelatedness of all the challenges we face as a single planetary community. With nearly 600 resources for further study, engagement and action, this book is a must-read for anyone concerned about where the world is heading ... and anyone who wants to do something about it.
