We are indeed a mighty current of grace
I have been a part of the charismatic renewal since the mid 1980's.This book has been very intformative and candid in the joys, the struggles and of the challenges ahead for the renewal. It reminded me that our mission is not finished yet, because the whole church still needs to be renewed with the power of the Holy Spirit. We are indeed a mighty current of grace. Thank you for very beautiful book on our history and our mission.

A insightful history of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal from its origins in 1967 to its 50th anniversary in 2017
Dr Alan Schreck always writes with clarity and a breath of knowledge about his subjects. In this book he gives a candid history of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal from its earliest days at US Universities such as Notre Dame to its fullest ecumenical expansion as a part of the 1977 Kansas City Ecumenical Celebration where thousands of Christians from all denominations were gathered in praise to more recent meetings with the Popes in the Vatican and up to now the 50th anniversary of the Renewal. Alan sees both the promise that renewal has and the difficulties that it has experienced both in some of the Covenanted communities and with sometimes a less than warm reception by ordained ministers and Bishops of the Church. Alan's strength in describing all of these is that he has been an active participant in so many of these events over the 50 years of renewal from his own time as a student at Notre Dame to his current teaching post at Franciscan University. He sees two possible futures for renewal in the church, one where it is in a sense side-lined into a movement of the church but not of the whole church to another where its 'Current of Grace' is received more openly by the hierarchies of the church and the whole church is infused by the charismatic graces of the Baptism of the Spirit. He sees all recent popes in being in total support of this renewal of the whole church. There are many good issues to be dealt with here in this history and Dr Schreck gives his own honest appraisal of a movement which has guided so much of his life. Thank you for such an honest encouraging book on Charismatic Renewal Dr Alan and for how you have contributed so much yourself to it by your teaching, writing and your own servant humility! Come Holy Spirit!

Powerful and Factual
Amazing! Well written, easy to read, and very informative. And, even though it is historical, it will stir your faith and make you want to pray for more of the Holy Spirit in your own life.
