A Good Critical Source
“ cliff notes” as we called them were considered the cheaters Bible in high school, but that’s unfair when it comes to Beowulf, Gawain,, and Malory’s Arthur. These works really do require some background information and the notes for these 3 titles are indispensable

Very helpful
I ended up using this to help me sort through some of the many variations of the story that exist, and find a translation that was true to the original. That was surprisingly difficult in this case.

Exactly what son needed
My son found this extremely useful for his college world literature class. He used it as it were meant to be used - a companion to the actual read. I have always ordered or checked out the companion Cliffs Notes and/or SparkNotes for books just in case they are needed.

Awful
Awful - not helpful at all. Absolute waste of money.

Misleading title
This book should really be called "The Gawain Poet", as nearly half the notes relate to his other works: Pearl, Purity and Patience. Just over twenty pages are devoted to Sir Gawain. The notes consist mainly of chapter summaries, with brief comments. There is no separate analysis of themes, characterisation, historical or literary context. All in all, a disappointment.
