Deluxe Bird Feeding Station

I love this feeding station - unfortunately I'm not a bird...
I bought the Tom Chambers Deluxe Bird Feeding Station as a gift for my wife, although we both derive a great deal of pleasure from watching the birds feeding in our garden - even if the majority of them are quarrelsome starlings... It was by way of an upgrade from what I would take to be one of the brand-leading (and certainly more ubiquitous) feeding stations which, after three years or so of service was starting to show its age.By comparison, this new station is streets ahead in terms of solidity and finish and I particularly like the way the various pole sections are threaded to screw firmly together - even while acknowledging that the top pair of sections will have to be periodically unscrewed to release the water tray for cleaning. The device that anchors the station into the ground works very effectively meaning that, with a little care, a perfectly perpendicular end result is possible, which I have no doubt will be retained over time, even in windy conditions. I complemented my purchase with three Tom Chambers feeders - one for suet balls, another for seed and a third for peanuts. And there they hang - untouched by any avian creature apart from three long-tailed tits; newcomers who visited on day two. The station occupies exactly the same position as its predecessor, but for some reason the birds don't view it as positively as I do. I strongly suspect that the problem may be due to the hammer finished metal hoods on two of the feeders, which overhang, obliging visitors to approach from below; I have observed sparrows and starlings swooping in as if to feed then being deterred at the last moment, presumably in a bid to preserve their plumage. The station has been up a week and I'm hoping that at some point the birds will return, because while it was expensive enough to be an art installation, and is undeniably well-made, it is not quite the last word in aesthetics.

Not as squirrel proof as I hoped!
Love the design and also bought the Squirrel Baffle to stop them depriving the birds of feed. All was perfect for about 2 months but then the squirrels managed to leap from a branch more than 6 feet away and cling on to the feeder - breaking the plastic and then sliding down off the Baffle!!So we raised the whole thing by more than a foot and ensured the station was more than the 7 feet squirrels are presumed to be able to leap. But 2 weeks later, they managed to get on again.I think the manufacturers should state that the feeding station needs to be in the middle of a field - and then it would work... Our garden is just too small to avoid the 8 feet necessary to prevent the pests. They have also eaten their way through the plastic and wire feeders and it drives me mad!!!!

Take care hammering it into the ground
Really good product I would highly recommend it well worth the money. The birds love it as well. Be careful when putting it in the ground. Ours didn't go in vertically probably hit a stone or some obstruction in the ground. It looked odd at an angle so I rather stupidly tried to straighten it by pushing on the pole. Big mistake. Partially stripped one of the threads. I had to dig it out and start again. Being an ex engineer I had the tools to drill and pin the damaged thread. So not a fault with the product if handled correctly it really is very good.

Strong, well designed feeding station
I searched for ‘strongest bird feeding station‘ and this came up as one of the best.Others can have a thin post which wobbles and eventually leans to one side when birds land on it so I wanted a strong, sturdy one. This so far has done a good job. It came with a nylon bung to hammer the lower post section into the ground without damaging the tube (which means they’ve thought about design and function) and its all very easy to fit together.

Fantastic quality bird feeding station
This is an extremely well built bird feeding station. The part that goes in the ground has a spike and find on it to keep it in place and it is definitely very sturdy in the ground. All the sections are of good quality and have threaded sections to screw them all together. This makes for a nice strong pole that doesn't wobble. A bit pricey but probably worth it as hopefully it will last.

Quality throughout.
Well designed and well engineered. The thick section pole has 4 flat blade stabilisers welded onto the bottom section and is supplied with a tough plastic temporary plug to drive the bottom section into the ground, so as to avoid damage to the thread. The pole is made up of 4 sections that fit together with a close fitting fine pitch parallel pipe thread. Definitely a very stiff and ridged pole when assembled. Care should be taken when assembling the sections as pipe threads are easy to cross thread. The finish on all parts is a pleasant heavy duty, durable, dark green paint. I doubt that I will ever need to buy another as this feeding station will last forever. Of course it's twice the price of many others but it's 10 times better. I am very pleased with mine and can highly recommend this item to others.

Worth the cost
Excellent product.I found it difficult to work out what the feeder comprised of so I took a picture of what was in the box to help you out! When putting it up I recommend screwing all the poles together and pushing it into the ground to get it started so you get it straight, then remove the poles and hammer in as instructed. It seems every sturdy with strong poles, however don't apply pressure to the 'wings' on the pole you hammer into the ground, by standing on it, as i broke one of the tack welds but it didnt cause me a problem.

Brilliant
Arrived on time, well packaged. All parts accounted for, nothing missing. Very well made and robust. Three arms for hanging feeders but you can use the smaller decorative curls to hang for example coconut halves. The spike to position the pole in the ground is just what is needed if you have very firm ground. I imagine this wearing well in the weather but time will tell. Only had it month so far. Although more expensive than other brands well worth the money. The birds love it.
