Explain Pain Supercharged

Lorimer YOU ARE NOT FUNNY!
I love the information in the book but lorimer shut up with the terrible stories and humor. He does this in his speeches too. He has miscalculated so badly why people listen to him. They read his book and listen to him for the incredible info. I cant tell you how annoying it is to see him constantly try to entertain a crowd or make you laugh in his books when his humor is just downright awful. He is so unfunny and awkward that you actually get embarrassed for him. He thinks people literally think he is this super entertaining speaker but I know 90% of people just want him to get to the point. Its like an elementry school teacher trying to make 10 year olds laugh. Buy the book for the information but just realize you have to kinda get through some stupid unnecessary stuff that throws off the flow like the " grand poobah pain theory" and a list of why people are deniers. Who knows why he thinks people who are apt at reading medical material will be riveted and more engaged with absolutely juvenile unfunny jokes and story telling. Lorimer please stop! We are entertained and engaged by your information not your weird and awkward sense of humor.

Fantastic text! Students and clinicians will love this manual
Fantastic text, a must have for clinicians who study pain, and students who study it. Explain Pain remains a go to for patient reading, this is more of an academic text book in the vein of Therapeutic Neuroscience Education by Louw and Puentadora. Very well done Drs. Butler and Moseley!

Recommend for the Practicing Physical Therapist
Where to begin... this book is AMAZING. Very informative, humorous, and useful in my daily practice as a physical therapist. Pain is a difficult subject to unpack with patients. This book helped me to develop a common language with my patients and made my conversations with patients more fruitful. It’s tempting to just dump all this vast knowledge about pain physiology and biopsychosocial aspects of pain, but this book brings that dialogue down to earth in a way patients can digest. Highly recommend as a physical therapist.

Excellent resource - particularly thinking about how we talk about pain.
Fantastic book on pain. If this one is too much for you, the Explain Pain by the same authors is excellent and available in expensively on Kindle. I am doing research on pain reduction for children and this is a fantastic research. The chapter on metaphors is particularly helpful. I'd recommend it for anyone who works with people in pain.

Good, but a lot of personality
I am a clinician therefore I chose this book because it is for clinicians. However, there seems to be a lot of "filler" information to bulk up the book such as an over-reliance on casual language such that what could have been said in 2 sentences is said in a paragraph or two. Also, many times, you just want them to get to the point instead of going off on some irrelevant story about themselves. At times, it feels like the authors are trying to keep the reader entertained by using copious amounts of humour, but you purchase the book because you are interested. One doesn't need convincing or constant humour to stay engaged.I've wanted the book for a long time and I am happy I purchased it, but I expected less conversational meandering and story ditties. Overall, the content is very good, but the approach is not to my taste.

Great info at a cost
I like the content of this book as it is aimed more at practitioners (I'm a physio). My only gripe is the high price and sometimes unnecessary use of cartoons. As a piece of artwork this is great, but in a medical text I get the feeling that you are paying for something which does not need to be there.

Very interesting read .. love it
This book comes highly recommended. It is very informative on the concept of Pain. Plenty of diagrams and illustrations to make the idea of Pain really interesting. Whether for your own interest or for informative research for work this book has it all.

Excellent
Excellent and well worth working through. Lead to completion of NOI's extension- weekend course although I did rather feel that having read the book fully the course wasn't necessary. What is most impressive about the authors for me is the fluidity of their practice and ability to adapt what they do as science enables greater understanding.
