Electrodynamics of Continuous Media: Volume 8

Landau & Lifshitz present a "different angle" on Physics. "Electrodynamics of Continuous Media", Vol. 8, is one of my favorites: it brings together electrodynamics, contimuum mechanics and thermodynamics. Section 10 "Thermodynamic relations for a dielectric in an electric field" and the following sections give a unique perspective on dielectric behavior. Having this in one's library along with Jackson's "Classical Electrodynamics" (Find a 2nd edition.) and Zangwill's "Modern Electrodynamics make an invaluable set.

As usual, the books in this series are well written and easy to understand. The Series in Theoretical Physics never disappoints. Book arrived quickly and in good condition.

It's a classic that was missing from my library. A well-bound paperback edition.

LLP is the gold standard for our understanding of the electrodynamic properties of matter. Although Jackson is the most common textbook, I prefer LLPs succinct style that focuses only on essential points.

Great book - plain and simple. Edition was in nearly perfect shape too, so no issues there. Go for it.

The level of rigor in this book was so important to me as an engineer with a major focus on electromagnetic. I love this book.

Bajo mi punto de vista, todos los libros de esta serie deberían estar presentes en la biblioteca personal de cualquier físico, pero este libro, sobre la teoría de los campos electromagnéticos macroscópicos en presencia de medios materiales es especialmente recomendable, la exposición de los temas es muy clara y directa (aunque son necesarios unos fundamentos matemáticos de álgebra y análisis bastante sólidos para entender la literatura de Landau). Básicamente una joya, y complementado con el volumen 2 sobre teoría clásica de campos y el volumen 4 sobre electrodinámica cuántica, ofrecen un tratamiento extensivo de la teoría electromagnética bastante al día.

Ideias sempre bem encadeadas, desenvolvimento lógico, com conceitos claros, consegue tornar evidentes transformações complexas, pois o objetivo do livro é desenvolver o raciocínio de modo a aceitar abstrações com muita simplicidade.

Die Bücher von Landau Lifschitz haben alle guten Tiefgang und sind sehr lehrreich. Man sieht, dass die Autoren das physikalische Material gut durchdacht haben, und den Weg zur Quintessenz gut belegen. Ich betrachte diese Bücher als einen Schatz und lese darin, wie manche vielleicht in einem guten Roman. Da lernt man immer was, entweder ein Thema anzugehen oder wie man es durchdringen kann.

Un libro muy recomendable para los investigadores relacionados con las aplicaciones de la electrodinámica de los medios continuos a los transductores electroacústicos.
