August Reverie: Adult Coloring Book

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  This is a beautiful and elegant coloring book by Chinthaka Herath. It is the first book I have by this illustrator, however, I hope it will not be the last. The designs are mostly of beautiful women (a good number with crowns) with a lot of flowers represented as well. There are a few of animals that are equally elegant.I found the designs detailed with only a few areas of what I consider to be intricate and small elements. In addition to the 24 designs in the book, there are two designs included on the presentation and table of contents pages.This is what I found in this coloring book:24 Elegant Designs are in the bookPrinted one side of the pagePaper is typical inexpensive quality by CreateSpace printing: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not merge into the binding.Glue BindingCreate Space Paper/Media QualityAlcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work fairly well with this publisher's paper provided you don't press extremely hard while coloring. I find that I can layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and blended easily with a pencil style blending stick. This is true of both oil and wax based pencils. I have also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.I like to use a blotter when working in this type of book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.

This book is full of beautiful, detailed illustrations. I really like to color people, and this book did not disappoint. Each woman is drawn beautifully. The pages are single sided, the paper is average, so if you use a medium that will bleed through the paper you will want to either remove the picture from the book or put something behind it to protect the other pictures. Overall a great book.

The illustrations in this book are fantastic. I love every single page. The paper is thin and has a little more tooth than I prefer for colored pencils but still worth it to have these gorgeous images to color. Once I have actually colored an image from the book I will update on my thoughts and post a picture of the finished page. This is one of those books that blending may need to be done with mineral spirits or something similar.The pages are printed single sided so you can use marker and gel pens. I think the paper is probably too thin for water mediums unless you apply a layer or two of clear Gesso.You will want to make sure to put card stock behind the page you are coloring to protect the next page. For alcohol markers you may need a couple of pieces of card stock.Even though I'm not a fan of the paper I still gave 5 stars because I love the illustrations so much.

Beautiful images, poor quality paper. Prismacolors take away the black lines very easily and the page practically eats up the pencils. The book does come with a free PDF version. I recommend printing out the images on your own, quality paper.

Beautiful illustrations! Really enjoyable to color! The great thing is you get a free PDF copy with every purchase of a book, so you can print on heavier paper stock if you choose. I have the Renaissance and August Reverie II so I decided to buy this one also. The pictures are lovely and I like most of them. If you like this style I highly recommend this book. They will be beautiful enough to display when finished.

So how about I ordered Volume 1 & 2 for my granddaughter. Well, so much for that idea! I took one look at the stunning pictures and decided these books weren't going anywhere! I started coloring as soon as I opened the package and have been going non-stop! I am using COLOR IT and KOH-I-NOOR artists' coloured pencils to bring each picture to life! Stunning how each picture literally comes to life once colored -- several of which the subject matter appear to be looking right through you! The artwork is second to none! These are my new girlfriends! Ha!

Oh my hat! I just received my copy and I am breathless nevermind speechless. What a stunning book! The pictures are amazing. Just what I love to colour. And the paper quality is excellent. This colouring book is stunning, full of beautiful women and animals to colour. The paper is on the thin side but ok if you put a blank sheet underneath the page to stop bleed through if you use alcohol based pens. Definitely one of my favourite books!

This came today. It looks wonderful. I can't wait to get my greedy little hands on it and start colouring. And it's single sided paper, which I love.
