Lava Rock Cooking Sharing Platter LR2

Amazing!So I ordered one to give to my parents as a Christmas gift. I'm gone and have my own life now, but in catching up I was reminded about some tropical island we were at; and how the beast steaks we'd ever had came off lava rocks.I searched and searched and found this company to have only the best, restaurant quality blocks. And the lava rock cooking company didn't disappoint. I am the paranoid type and I made sure to check the box before I wrapped it up. Turns out it was the wrong item. They gave me one of the smaller platters with the tray on the side. I emailed them perfectly cordial asking for a return, knowing my parents would understand.They emailed me back and told me to keep the incorrect item and that the correct one would be sent one day priority mail direct to me at no charge. It ended up that with the weekend and the holidays converging, we got the item two days after Christmas, but I couldn't be more pleased.My parents love their Lava Rock and so do my lady friends. Highly recommended! This large platter type is the best for the money, though I kept the smaller one and it works just fine for a date night.

Poor quality of the bamboo tray. We used it for the first time tonight. A loud sound startled us all during the rock cooking dinner - the bamboo tray cracked all the way though the middle. Very disappointed.

I gave this cooking stone to my son who is an excellent cook. He was thrilled to get one and can't wait to try it.

I love the stone but the tray was broken when I unpacked it. The corner of the box was damaged. How do I get a replacement tray?

I purchased mine about two weeks ago or less. I really like the look and the build quality of the stone and the bamboo base and the fact that the metal dish that holds the stone fits snug into the bamboo base. I bought a burner to heat the stone and used it for about 30 seconds to a minute to test the burner. It was interesting that over the next 45 minutes, the stone got hotter and hotter to a point where I wasn't able to leave my hand on it for more than a second. I had high hopes because it I was just testing the burner yet the stone progressively got hotter even though the burner was off.The stone has a very smooth surface but mine came with two chips towards the edge of the stone which I didn't like because I know I could've kept it looking perfect for a long time but I didn't want to write a review over that and decided not to complain. I don't think it was due to shipping as there is foam on top of the stone in the box to absorb impact. I used the stone yesterday for the first time to cook 5 shrimp skewers as a test during a birthday BBQ. It did cook them, however, after letting the stone cool on the counter, I realized there is now a crack 5" into the stone from the edge to the center of the stone and down along the side and under the stone. It's a full crack through. That's unacceptable for the first use and I feel like if I use it again, it will continue to crack and the stone will eventually split. I'm not sure if I should ask for a refund or use it as an expensive cutting board :/ .

This is a fun way to turn dinner into an event as much as it is a meal. We have enjoyed the experience each time we've used our Lava Rock platter. Two surprises that keep it from a 5 star rating for me. I did not know that the only way to move the platter from the stove to the carrier was with high temp. rated gloves. This was a significant and unexpected expense. Second, the rock only cooks effectively for about 35 minutes so you really need to be hustling to get your food cooked which means its not a leisurely way to do a meal.Still, it was a good purchase!

We have 4 of these and we have all our friends over for dinner! SO much fun and cooks the meat perfectly!!!!! We recommend them to everyone!

Bought this for my husband as an anniversary gift. He LOVES it! Great way to grill during the long Michigan winters.
